I've wondered why folks call buildings "churches". Haven't any of them read the bible?
Because its easier to say than "the building where our church meets for services". That's also why we have church instead of saying "our church gathered together for a service"

That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.

It's not possible to "have church". And it's not "our church" or 'your church' or 'their church', it's the church. Nobody can own the church, but most Christians can't seem to understand that. I can see that it's pretty well impossible to eliminate the Romanist mindset from the church. But I'm gonna keep trying anyway.

Do you say "my house" or "my kids" or "my job"? None of it belongs to any of us. It's not a big deal to say "my church". I'm not saying I own the church, I'm saying I belong to to my church---I'm a part, I belong!
You are waaaaayyyyy too analytical. Okay, you've got a different view of how we should be doing things. Congratulations. What do you want us to say? "You're right, we're wrong. You and your compadres are the TRUE church of Jesus Christ, the rest of us a Catholic wannabes"?

When a newspaper posed the question, "What's Wrong with the World?" G. K. Chesterton reputedly wrote a brief letter in response: "Dear Sirs: I am. Sincerely Yours, G. K. Chesterton." That is the attitude of someone who has grasped the message of Jesus.

Amen!!! Way too analltical. Did not Jesus say, "upon this rock I will build MY CHURCH"???? We're a part of Jesus spiritual body, and we worship Him cporporately in a physical building that we cal the CHURCH!!! When you get these people that overly emphasis things that's not relevant to anything pertinent to sin-etc; they can; if you allow them; they can take you places that you DO NOT need to go!!! Acts 2:47...."And the Lord added to the {{{church}}} daily such as should be saved"; so whether it's the spiritual body and/or the place of worship; IT'S STILL THE CHURCH. I do believe that we should concentrate on living saved for the Lord; being an effective witness for Him, and GROWING/GOING on to perfection: maturing, and stop choking/squabbling over a KNAT...
I'll repeat it "Have Church" is just a short way of saying "the church gathered for a service"

Actually, it is "our church"...the local congregation is our church. It's my church.
Just like the Unites States is OUR Country that does not mean we OWN it. The US is MY Country. That does not mean I own it
Your straining at a gnat

I'm simply pointing out the fact that the building-based 'church' is based on a modified Romanist system which isn't found in the New Testament. When someone says "my church", that's an immediate giveaway that person hasn't read enough of the bible to understand, or understood what they read, that they're speaking of the modified Romanist system instead of THE church.

That's one of the problems. Terms are mindlessly used which have nothing to do with the New Testament church.

Actually, it's not your church, it's not my church, it's the church which Jesus established. In your analogy, we find countries going to war with each other because my country is bigger and better than your country. You live in your country, I live in my country and maybe we can live in peace but don't claim to be the same as folks living in my country because we're the best country. Thing is, there's one church which was established in the New Testament and that church wasn't separated or distinguished by building buildings and putting a name over the door or drawing boundaries creating new 'churches'.
The problem is you have 'your church', the guy next door has 'his church', the people down the street have 'their church'. 'Church' after 'church' after 'church' after 'church', separate, distinct, competing, bigger, nicer, smaller, sitting there dark, empty, insurance, utilities, repair, debt.
Nothing there in that modified Romanist system resembling the New Testament church system at all.

Okay. So you don't go to any building to worship?

"Romanist Mindset"
what kind of nonsense is that???
The ROMAN church also has a mindset of feeding the poor. Should we all go out and make sure the poor STARVE to avoid this goofball idea of having a "Romanist Mindset"????
Good grief.
I believe in sound doctrine. If the Romanists believe something that I believe it has abolutly nothing to do with me trying to be like them.
Romanist mindset my foot. YOUR issue is YOU have a mindset that YOU cant convince ANYONE to agree with so THEY have to be the problem. IT COULDNT be YOU.
blather.
