The UPC should require all men to be shaven bald. That would end any questions about how short is short (just as uncut hair ends the question "how long is long").
It would also be another mark of "seperation" that seems so important to OP's.
If they did this then not only would the women be easy to spot at Wal Mart and the Mall "showing their glory" but the men would be distinctive also!!!
As it is they can look like every other guy in the world. With my idea when you see a group of OP men you would KNOW they are "different" and "peculiar" (just like their wives) since they would all be bald as cue balls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What significance did this have to the church in Corinth ?
What is the background behind Paul's explaination to the church ?

He wrote several things to this church that he does not address elsewhere. The fact that they are not mentioned elsewhere, does not invalidate them. Consider the teaching and correction regarding the operation of spiritual gifts.
Perhaps he words would be an appropriate response...

Yes my dearest Brother In Christ ,I understand this but there must have been a reason that Paul brought this up in His Epistle to Corinth though.

I like my idea here so much I think it should be introduced as a resolution at GC in Tampa for the UPc.
"Be it hereby resolved, seeing as there is great darkness in the world today and the bride of Christ must strive harder than ever for "seperation", and seeing as historically Pentecostal women have borne the heavier share of distinction, that effective immediately all licensed UPC ministers must affirm by their signature in good faith that they will shave their head bald and teach the same to the men under their shepherdship."

Like they were having "problems" with abusing the spiritual gifts, they most likely had headship, submission, and other going against "practice" issues.

The scripture is clear. Covered or uncovered. Covered means hair. Uncovered means NO hair. I don't think SEMI-covered is mentioned.

What was the custom in Corithian society for how men and women wore their hair ?
What the custom of Messanic Jewish believers in the first century for how men and women wore their hair ?
What was the background of the Corinthian believers ?

There's obviously a distinction between "shorn or shaved"

Is there a difference between short like being closely cropped or being bald ,than having long tresses of hair ?
