Not only that, but I can understand why preachers would want to talk privately. There IS a danger that it can become a bash-fest, and hopefully that is carefully moderated. On the other hand, pastors and preachers have some things in common with one another, want to have discussions privately with like-minded people, and without having to constantly explain themselves to those who may not understand their POV.
However. Transparency helps create trust. A lack of transparency creates distrust. It's as simple as that. When people are whispering, it's human nature to wonder if they are whispering about you. When people are talking behind closed doors, it's natural to assume they have a reason to hide the conversation. And I'm not QUITE convinced that personalities should be more deeply discussed behind closed doors than they are in public. I seem to recall a preacher's forum causing some pain and angst for someone who was allowed to be a "fly on the wall" and read posts he wasn't intended to read. Maybe *they* shouldn't have posted those things in the first place.
I try really hard not to post things I'll be ashamed of later. I haven't always succeeded, but I try. Some people don't put in that effort and it shows up in their conversation. It has shown up in the preachers' forums, and it has shown up at the AFF. It's even shown up on this thread. Regrettable words seem to show up wherever people are talking, come to think of it.
