Finally heard from Newt Gingrich on Palin:

"Governor Palin may very well be the nominee. There are lots and lots of Republicans who like her. She is now going to be able to campaign full time for the next, uh, almost three and a quarter years. And so, who knows what will happen? I think it's a long way off, but I think she has a very major role to play in the party and I wouldn't rule her out for either the first or second slot.

Interesting by Peggy Noonan. I don't happen to agree, totally, with her. When Palin knows a topic, she can bring it. 3 1/2 years is just what she needs and I believe that is what she will be working toward. Her Hockey Mom verbiage is her trademark, but she does need to hone up on her skills in foreign affairs, etc. I believe Peggy Noonan will change her view in time to come.

"She went on the trail a sensation but demonstrated in the ensuing months that she was not ready to go national and in fact never would be. She was hungry, loved politics, had charm and energy, loved walking onto the stage, waving and doing the stump speech. All good. But she was not thoughtful. She was a gifted retail politician who displayed the disadvantages of being born into a point of view (in her case a form of conservatism; elsewhere and in other circumstances, it could have been a form of liberalism) and swallowing it whole: She never learned how the other sides think, or why."

Newt is just saying the right things (in contrast to Palin). Don't be fooled... he's interested in being a contender.

I'm not fooled by him and his being interested as a contender. Presently, I would totally support him as President of the United States of America. I've always liked Newt Gingrich. He's one of my favorites, but I am also watching Mike Pence to see what he might do.

July 10, 2009 Fairbanks, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin’s chief of staff, Mike Nizich, issued the following statement today on the occasion of the 19th ethics complaint being filed against the governor or a member of her staff:

“A week ago today, the governor told Alaskans that she was about to step down as governor in large part because of the campaign of harassment against this office, in which the Executive Branch Ethics Act has been repeatedly abused. Incredibly, since then two more ethics complaints have been filed against the governor, including one today.

“Typically, the first action by these complainants has been an illegal one – to announce the filing of the complaints to the news media, in clear violation of the mandatory confidentiality in the law. Unfortunately, unlike the legislative ethics act, there is no provision in the executive ethics act for a complaint to be automatically dismissed when it is publicized prematurely. Regardless of that, it is breathtakingly hypocritical for anyone to violate the ethics law in the very act of making an allegation against the governor."

“Although the governor would not have thought it possible, the latest complaint rises to a new level of absurdity in alleging that she has been paid for interviews that she has given to the news media. It is amazing to me that anyone could think that, let alone put their name behind it and once again seek to distract state officials and needlessly increase their work load. The state is losing the value of some of its expenditures when public servants are pulled away from important assignments to deal with far-fetched and mean-spirited allegations.”

Governor Palin issued the following statement:

“The only saving grace in this recent episode is that it proves beyond any doubt the significance of the problem Alaska faces in the ‘new normal’ of political discourse. I hope this will be a wake-up call – to legislators, to commentators and to citizens generally – that we need a much more civil and respectful dialogue that focuses on the best interests of the state, rather than the petty resentments of a few.”

Of the ethics complaints against the governor or her staff, 15 have been resolved without any finding of wrongdoing, and four are now pending.

I agree with Peggy Noonan on this portion of her article. Again, I don't agree that Palin cannot be ready to run in 2016, but time will tell.

Here's why all this matters. The world is a dangerous place. It has never been more so, or more complicated, more straining of the reasoning powers of those with actual genius and true judgment. This is a time for conservative leaders who know how to think.

Here are a few examples of what we may face in the next 10 years: a profound and prolonged American crash, with the admission of bankruptcy and the spread of deep social unrest; one or more American cities getting hit with weapons of mass destruction from an unknown source; faint glimmers of actual secessionist movements as Americans for various reasons and in various areas decide the burdens and assumptions of the federal government are no longer attractive or legitimate.

The era we face, that is soon upon us, will require a great deal from our leaders. They had better be sturdy. They will have to be gifted. There will be many who cannot, and should not, make the cut. Now is the time to look for those who can. And so the Republican Party should get serious, as serious as the age, because that is what a grown-up, responsible party—a party that deserves to lead—would do.

It's not a time to be frivolous, or to feel the temptation of resentment, or the temptation of thinking next year will be more or less like last year, and the assumptions of our childhoods will more or less reign in our future. It won't be that way.

We are going to need the best.

I think she will do much better than suing. She is poised to address the issues the media refuses to address and SHE is just the one to do it!

The governor, however, accused the media of overlooking the serious economic threats facing the nation.

"Many in the national media would rather focus on the personality-driven political gossip of the day than on the gravity of these challenges," she wrote before launching into her argument against the president's energy plan. "So, at risk of disappointing the chattering class, let me make clear what is foremost on my mind and where my focus will be."

Hilary is done (I think), but that doesn't mean she won't try to run again.

Fox News Signs Sarah Palin

Former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska has signed on as a contributor to the Fox News Channel.

The network confirmed that Ms. Palin will appear on the network’s programming on a regular basis as part of a multi-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Ms. Palin will not have her own regular program, one person familiar with the deal said, though she will host an occasional series that will run on the network from time to time. This person would not elaborate, but the network does have a precedent for such a series. Oliver L. North is the host of an occasionally running documentary series on the military called “War Stories.”
