Every election cycle that passes where we allow people to pay lip-service to the issues important to us places us in a position where the shifting realities make the situation even more irreversable.
I think that we vote who best represents us and then we work through all the other stuff. It's like voting in a pastor. Don't ya think?

I guess in some ways it is like voting in anyone for any position. My point is that if in your search for pastor you blindly lock into an option before you even find out who the individual is, you may be setting yourself up for trouble. In my search for a pastor I would want to be every clear about how that person was actually committed to lead and I would not accept someone who was not committed to governing in a way that lined up with all of my core values.

In my opinion, Immigration is one of the biggest issues facing our country. When I vote for anyone I want to know exactly what they are pledging to do and what I can hold them accountable to.

Abortion is another such issue. I'm afraid to hang my hat on the hope that they will appoint someone who may do something that I consider vital. We have rolled that dice before and have ended up with basically a Republican appointed Supreme Court that still doesn't rule in a way that is consistent with my convictions. We may still just hope and pray that things change, but the reality is that the GOP knows that they don't have to because they can still count on our vote either way.

I refuse to continue to send the message to any party that I am beholden to vote for them no matter what. If more people begin to think that way (and many younger people do), we may be able to reintroduce some accountability and force actual action.

Oh they're out there, believe me

I've met some who almost think it's sacreligous to seriously question the motives and integrity of the GOP.

You know as well as I do that you can talk to a man, feel good about him, vote him in and then you get to really know him. You just have to trust God on that one.

I feel that way about politics.

On the pastor issue. You can have a Saul that God called and he turns inside and depends upon his own decisions and offers his own sacrifice. In the end, God takes care of His people either way.

Why? Even though McCain is a moderate instead of a conservative, he showed wisdom by picking a conservative as a running mate. This gives me hope that a moderate/conservative judge will be picked for the Supreme Court if someone dies or retires from the bench.

If Obama wins, we will definitely have a new liberal judge on the Supreme Court. This election is about family values. My values are quite different from the radical left-wingers!
This is exactly how I feel also. I didn't keep up with anything until McCain chose Palin. She made all the difference in his campaign in my opinion. Before I was only voting for McCain because he was the lesser of the two evils. lol

Basically, and this might just be me, but I think many are a lot like McCain when he said last night - let's take the best ideas from both parties and not worry about who gets the credit. I think we are evolving this way. He will set a good precedent and could change things for the good. I want to give him this chance.

It may look like it is not happening with Obama, but his "ideas" on foreign issues are his major problem and issue with the American people.

Lieberman will fill in the gap, even though he is pro-choice, he has many other good virtues and ideas for partisanship coming together. To me, it's beginning to look workable.

Yes, obviously people can lie when running for office but let me just say a few more things before I run:

A. At least make him or her make specific promises and committments in all the important areas.

B. We do not have a "rule for life" type system where a group of people can lie then be scott free for life. Every few years we have the ability to decide whether we are satisfied with what they did and whether we are going to hold them accountable....and whether we are going to make them work for us in order to continue to be in power.

Yeah, she really isn't a great speaker but I did like when she make the comment about McCain choosing a women to help take the wheel or something like that.

I agree with that to a great degree. That is why I hate the kind of partisanship that says I heard absolutely no good speeches at one convention...but every oracle at the other was speaking as if from the heavenlies . The truth of the matter is that the professional speech writers at either convention are going to write some good speeches and we just need to get past our partisan blinders.
