Truthfully.. I can look back at the Celebration of Easter from when I was young and say NOBODY I knew ever backslid over celebrating Easter with Easter Eggs... This arguement is foolishness.. I don't think God is upset over it.. many church's have great services on Easter with many visitors and have great moves of God, people in the altar getting the Holy Ghost or praying back thru and then after service they take the children out and hunt pretty painted eggs...

the only ones who might have got bitter were the one's who had a problem with hunting eggs....

Yes, it's okay to have Easter egg hunts.

Apostle Felicity has spoken...

Good thing she said it here... had it been in a church service we would have had to ask her to please remain silent.

LOL.

Well goodness sake ....... we're talking "children" here. Long as I've been alive chocolate bunnies and eggs have been part of Easter but we certainly knew how - even as children - to separate that from the death of Christ and His subsequent resurrection.

Sheesh!

I apoligize for not being more precise, I can remember standing on that bank of the river feeling an excitement as the minister spoke of the resurrection. Even though I cannot remember the exact words or even the preachers message, what was special to me was a spiritual connection.

Now, remember I was 9 or 10. But I remember how special it was to me that I had spent the day with God's people. That is where my hunger for the Lord started. That day comes to my mind every Easter Sunday when I open my eyes.

I do understand what you are saying. But I still believe it can be used to reach children in a right way. I think Brother telling the story of the death, and resurrection of Jesus while thay are hiding the eggs is the difference. I would never want to see an egg hunt at the church for the sake of hunting eggs alone.

I think that some of the issue that has not been discussed heretofore is that what were once Holy Days have now truly become holidays.

While holiday is from the phrase Holy Day the way we judge things can be vastly affected by whether we view it as a Holy Day or a holiday.

Holidays are fun, heart warming, fuzzy, giggly, full of memories.

Holy Days are a celebration of ones God.

Not just this issue... but in many others... our decisions these days are quite often made on what "feels good", what conjures fond memories.

These decisions are made in the heart.. which has been deemed, per the word of God, as deceitful above all things.

it seems to me that there is some value in kids having good memories of church. Good memories go a long way in keeping adults around church.

God knows we have too many folk that will not walk into a church because of hte bad memories they had growing up.
Great Post Ferd!

I remember hunting eggs on Easter after Sunday School. We always had the story of the resurrection and then we would hunt eggs after church. I had no idea that it was such an issue until I got grown. lol

I think the negative thing about having egg hunts is to lie and tell the children the bunny brought them! Just like telling them Santa brought the toys and gifts. Now that is NOT a Christian thing to do!

I doubt a Christian would tell their child a bunny brought the eggs.
