Exxon's civic duty is to make a boatload of money and send me my dividend!

Shells civic duty is to make a boatload of money and see their stock price skyrockett so I can retire early.

THAT is thier civic duty.

Do you think the founders wouldn't tax companies, sales, and trade...and shift the burden of running the government to individuals who can barely afford necessities as it is?

Incorporating is a PREVILEDGE. Not a right. The charter can be revoked. This is blind corporatism. You see...you're so consumed about "getting yours", as are most other investors, they could care less what will serve the nation's greater good.

We've traded the + for the $.

Re: 8 miles of truckers

My wife has a friend named Julie. Julie has cancer. Julie once looked into getting another job but found that the employer’s health care plan wouldn’t insure her because her cancer would be classified as a pre-existing illness. So she decided to stay with Reynolds and Reynolds. There are rumors of layoffs and this young lady is terrified she’ll loose her job and not be able to get the health insurance she needs. What matters more…your precious investments…or her very life?

Re: 8 miles of truckers

it is absolutely repulsive for you to try and relate peoples investments and retirement portfolios to some one elses suffering chris, you have no way of knowing what ferd or anyone else owns in those kinds of accounts, try thinking before you mouth off , good grief, dt

Re: 8 miles of truckers

Dt, I’m just expressing a thought. If it makes one think or consider the moral implications of our materialist society and our modern materialistic ways I’ve done my job. I know many like Ferd, and most likely yourself , have sacrificed quite a bit and been through a lot. However, sometimes things have to be said to get the thought out there so that we can begin introspection. If you and Ferd have searched your hearts and found no materialism or greed…you have no need to feel any guilt. However, there are others who may indeed need pricked to search their hearts and their motives.
I think we like sermons…we hate messages. I love a good sermon that addresses general principles and specific doctrines. But we don’t like messages that get in our faces and call us on the carpet. I could sermonize…but I feel called to speak for those who are hurting. I get my health insurance for only $40 a month. It’s a nice plan really, but not as nice as our previous plan. It’s an HSA and the government puts $3,000 toward the $4,000 deductible. It’s a great plan…of course it’s a government plan and I can go to any doctor I like. I’m advocating a plan that would cause me to have to pay nearly an extra $150 a month…so that people like Julie can be covered. The way I see it…I have no right to health care if people like Julie are denied coverage. I’m not more important than she is. It is therefore my duty to speak for her and those who are in similar bonds.

Re: 8 miles of truckers

i for one am not trying to keep any body from getting healthcare, i along with my company pay over 1000 a month for myself, my wife and my youngest daughter, just try to be more sensitive, you are speaking to the wrong people when you make such insensitive statements, just an admonishment in love from an old man, dt

hmm... well those founders (whom I love) were super rich men who excluded blacks, women and poor white men from the political process....

I consider it both a previledge and an honor to own mutual funds that are invested in these corporations.

It is amazing how you have friend with exact situations that have recently been in the news.

Funny. Barak Obama was talking about Julie just last week.
