In the lives of those this thread is speaking of... It would appear not.

Well bro.......

I think there's a difference in people staying home from church occasionally because of sickness, etc. and the reason you gave.

I think most of those who've posted in this thread allowing for occasional church absence would say that church also "has tangible, visible, understandable and demonstrable relevance to peoples every day lives".

I certainly believe that they would anyhow.

I like the way things use to be.you know how it was, long revivals, everyone was excited about getting to church every night, there was a closeness that's hard to find in the world we now live in

But that will be no more unless God brings about the change.
we'll never be able to relive that era otherwise. It was great, but it's gone.

Why do So many people livetheir lives in a time zone of the past??
I know people who are mentally still living in the 50s. they long for church to be like it was in 50s because that's when they was young and everything was new and exciting.

Even our most progressive churches in the UPC are living in the 80s and 90s at best. Many pastors are frustrated and wondering why things are like they are. they refuse to SHIFT

I don't have time right now to read the entire thread.. I've been guilty of not reading threads through lately...
but here's my honest two cents worth.

People get fired for missing too much work... God doesn't fire us.

Is it a good excuse? Of course not.. but we're human.

I have no argument with that.

If it helps any... I haven't read one post in this thread except the first one and our banter here. So if there has been anything posted in the interim and anyone feels that I made my post in relation to their thoughts I apologize for that misconception.

I was simply responding to the very first post.

Many people who nonchalantly approach church with a take it or leave it attitude truly feel that church bears no real relevance to their daily lives. It is just something they do because they are "supposed to."

This could sometimes be because of a wrong perception on their part.

This could sometimes be because what they find when they go their church is truly irrelevant to their lives.

Either extreme is possible. Neither extreme is a given.
