That's not what it means by "usurp" authority. Now you are adding to the word of God
The greek word means to exercise dominion, it does not mean "to preach"
I do not add to the Word of God [Definitions of usurp on the Web:

* To seize power from another, usually by illegitimate means; To use and assume the coat of arms of another person Paul taught for a woman not to teach or usurp authority over the man[the male]now where am I adding to the Word? You look at the Word and try every way to dispute or distort the meaning.Women can do many wonderful things in the Church. the thing I like about this thread is it draws out the wierdos.
Hee hee....
LET ME SAY THIS REALLY LOUD! i LOVE SISTER ALVEAR AND SHE CAN PREACH TO ME ANYTIME!
God bless all the lady preachers that have blessed my life. Even the one I never met because she died before I was born... She was my great grandmother and because of her I know God today.
to all the precious ladies out there that have a call on your lives, KEEP PREACHEN! God and I love it!

First of all you tried to use "usurp authority" to prove a woman can't preach. That is not what the word means. It does not mean to preach God's word
Second, "Usurp" is a bad translation. The word means to take dominion over
Zodhaites: authentéō contracted authentṓ; fut. authentḗsō, from authéntēs (n.f.), murderer, absolute master, which is from autós (G846), himself, and éntea (n.f.) arms, armor. A self-appointed killer with one's own hand, one acting by his own authority or power. Governing a gen., to use or exercise authority or power over as an autocrat, to domineer (1Ti_2:12). See anḗr (G435, XI, C), husband.
Preaching God's word is not taking dominion or authority OVER anyone.
The bible is the authority. Someone preaching what the bible says is not "taking authority".
So the word there does not mean "to preach".

That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
