Excuse me but wasn't it you who said that I didn't highlight pastor or Christian leader, when I posted the meaning of the Greek? If you didn't think that was important to your case then why did you make the fuss?
You must believe that Phebe was some kind of pastor do you not? That would be a yes or no answer, also would you say that Phebe was over men in some capacity? If your answer is yes, then please explain how and how would she compare with Eph 4:11? Let's see how you prove that Phebe was a leader over men in some capacity.
Why focus on pastor when teacher was also highlighted?
Again, those men were instructed by Paul to do as she bid them. If they could have done the work themselves, Paul wouldn't have had to send someone else to teach them, whether is was man or woman.

Wonderful her's your chance to shine, prove what you said. Paul consider her a LEADER? What?
succourer:
1. a woman set over others
2. a female guardian, protectress, patroness, caring for the affairs of others and aiding them with her resources
You can't avoid the meaning of that word. She aided people with her resources. How did she do that if she couldn't teach them anything???
The Bible says that if you give a man a fish, you fed him for a day, but TEACH him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.
Phoebe wasn't there to feed those folks for a day. Paul wouldn't have sent her there to waste her time. She was a leader, a guardian, and a teacher with her resources. She was a great help to people, but in helping people, teaching is involved. Surely you understand this as a minister and servant of God.

You can't escape the fact that if she wasn't over men in some capacity, there would have been no reason for Paul to instruct those men to do as she needed. The instruction would have been to Phoebe, not the men.
Wow. GOOD point.

Paul sent many people to aid churches, but I can't find a single time he instructed people to obey men he sent, but he had to instruct men (probably relatives of EB...) to obey a woman!

HAHAHA!
Same problems then as they are now, I guess.

Act 21:9 KJV And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.
Adam Clarke:
Quote:
Act 21:9 -
Four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy - Probably these were no more than teachers in the Church: for we have already seen that this is a frequent meaning of the word prophesy; and this is undoubtedly one thing intended by the prophecy of Joel, quoted Act_2:17, Act_2:18, of this book. If Philip’s daughters might be prophetesses, why not teachers?
PNT:
Quote:
Had four daughters . . . which did prophesy. Compare Act_2:17. The prophetic spirit in either the Old or New Testament is not confined to a single sex. Deborah and Huldah are Old Testament examples, and in the New Testament, Elisabeth, Mary, Anna, and the daughters of Philip are instances.
Robertson:
Quote:
Act 21:9 -
Virgins which did prophesy (parthenoi prophēteusai). Not necessarily an “order” of virgins, but Philip had the honour of having in his home four virgin daughters with the gift of prophecy which was not necessarily predicting events, though that was done as by Agabus here. It was more than ordinary preaching (cf. Act_19:6) and was put by Paul above the other gifts like tongues (1 Corinthians 14:1-33). The prophecy of Joel (Joe_2:28.) about their sons and daughters prophesying is quoted by Peter and applied to the events on the day of Pentecost (Act_2:17). Paul in 1Co_11:5 gives directions about praying and prophesying by the women (apparently in public worship) with the head uncovered and sharply requires the head covering, though not forbidding the praying and prophesying. With this must be compared his demand for silence by the women in 1Co_14:34-40; 1Ti_2:8-15 which it is not easy to reconcile. One wonders if there was not something known to Paul about special conditions in Corinth and Ephesus that he has not told. There was also Anna the prophetess in the temple (Luk_2:36) besides the inspired hymns of Elizabeth (Luk_1:42-45) and of Mary (Luk_1:46-55). At any rate there was no order of women prophets or official ministers. There were Old Testament prophetesses like Miriam, Deborah, Huldah. Today in our Sunday schools the women do most of the actual teaching. The whole problem is difficult and calls for restraint and reverence. One thing is certain and that is that Luke appreciated the services of women for Christ as is shown often in his writings (Luk_8:1-3, for instance) before this incident.

This thread is a waste of time..we have wrote the same things over and over on threads...
Most of us will never change our minds. I will always believe that God called Sister Agnes Holmes to preach along with many others I have met along the way. I am sorry that some overbearing women have been in ministy but I am also sorry some sissy men have been in ministry...
However there are women God used in both the old and new testaments and GODLY women are not trying to take the place of men nor trying to act like them...they quitely gather in the grain...for the harvest.
The go ye command applies to all christians. I wish I had another life to give obeying the go ye command.
