and for two, I don't think it was childish... I said when you say something you sound stupid... because what is being said doesn't make any sense to anyone else... I don't think coonskinner is a stupid man, I absolutely, 100% do not think he is stupid... That is why I say something like that... Because he has to realize that to everyone but a very small portion of the population he does in fact sound kinda stupid when he tries and insults people by calling them charismatic... Its great that we can make up our own usage of words in our little circles, but the rest of the world thinks we're nuts and, occasionally, they have a point and its not "nuts for God" nuts, its just plain old disconnected with reality nuts...
Go out on the street and ask someone what they would think of someone who tries to insult someone by calling them exactly what they are themselves... I doubt you'd get a nice answer (although you'll probably just get started at like you're crazy lol)

Electrical engineers, plumbers, computer hackers, cowboys, baseball players and poetry buffs all have jargon that they use among themselves.
This is not a mark of stupidity.
Not being able to recognize the validity of terminology that is appropriate in context is.
PS: Thanks for the affirmation that I am not stupid. I am very grateful.

I don't get it....
I mean, I kinda get Thad's whole constantly gossipping thing because it is, by and large, newsworthy items that people should be aware of with a little bit of gossip-column reporting thrown in (not in what he reports, rather how he does it)...
but this I don't get... I mean... look at Coonskinner's post... He sees "Charismatic" as an insult, so in his mind you just ripped on half the board (if not more) and stated they somehow aren't as holy as anyone else...
What good is this doing?
|
Larry, please substantiate the post where I said it was an insult.
All i said was that we as Apostolics use it in a different way than the religious world at large.
The accusation you are making is false.
I did not say it was an insult.
The term refers to those who have abandoned standards and other doctrinal points.
While I do not want to be one of those, I did not say it was an insult.
I can quote the post you are referring to.
Please retract the statement...it is a false accusation, and I can easily prove that.

I wasn't going to say anything else until coonskinner jumped on me and stated that "charismatic" is obviously meant as an insult in this thread as well as any other place around here it is stated...
I don't get the joke, but I'm fine with it... I just don't think everyone else here realizes its a joke, that's all I'm saying...

Larry, the bolded statement is a lie.
This is the post you are referencing:

Larry, contrary to your opinion, we aren't all stupid.
We know what the dictionary term "Charismatic" means.
But this is an Apostolic board, and we also are aware of the meaning of the term in our own vernacular.
I think you are too. You know exactly what is meant by the term in context, and we know that the religious world at large considers anyone who speaks in tongues "charismatic."
But this is us, not the religious world we are talking to.
So spare us the vocabulary lesson.
|
I did not state what you say I stated.
You have repeatedly made this false accusation. It is patently untrue.
I want you to retract it and acknowledge your lie, and stop repeating it.

CS,
You're attempts to debunk Redeemed ... are disingenuous to say the least. No doubt each culture and subculture create a vernacular to reflect what they value ... and OP culture is no exception.
However, Redeemed is speaking of pejoratives ... and I think you know that. Hip Hop uses the "N" and "B" word w/ frequency ... should we cast a blind eye and say it's a cultural thang. The Puritans labeled anyone who disagreed w/ them as witches ... should we applaud them for it?
The term "charismatic" is born of ignorance and attempts to control the minds.
For some to continue to misuse a word that is clearly defined by society and the religious world to mean something entirely else is well ... STUPID.
But ... those of us close to the situation know why it's really used ... it's used by the ministry to ostracize those that do not live up to their standards while using it flippantly to scare those left behind not to be like "dem chareesmatics'

Dan,
His statements were false.
That is irrefutable.
