Re: REX JOHNSON -TBN WED. MARCH 11th 9:00 PM Centr

But Ron, here's what I don't understand...... first of all, I'm not attacking you at ALL.... my church is a non-tv church, and I don't watch tv myself. BUT I did watch RJ on the internet yesterday. So how can I consistently condemn him for using that medium, if I'm going to watch it on the internet? To be perfectly honest.... I guess I did watch TV yesterday. I just watched it on the internet.

If I'm going to condemn him for using that medium, if I'm going to be consistent, I shouldn't watch any tv programming on the internet either!

The line between tv and internet is getting very hazy. I think we're really going to have to focus on programming choices, not just condemning the medium.

My husband and I were discussing this just today. I've heard preachers say that "Trinitarians are NOT MY BROTHER!!" "Trinitarians don't serve the same God we serve. It's a false religion."

And YET. We use all of their materials. We sing their songs. We read their books. We go to their concerts. We go to the CHRISTIAN bookstore.

Honestly, it really doesn't make sense. I don't read Buddhist books, or go to their bookstores!

I never attacked anyone, I never said anyone was sinning, I only stated that I am not comfortable with propagating our message through the medium of TV.
That is all.

I only mentioned my cousin who is non UPC & is far from an ultra con & she won't use the medium lest any think it is a UPC stand.

Great Man, Great Message, Wrong Medium.

Amen!! I was going to come back and say that we need to be respectful of each other's personal convictions, even if we don't agree!

I also wanted to say that one of my sisters is a Baptist and they don't have Satellite and have very, very limited viewing time for their family on movies, which they are very strict about. They feel as strongly about t.v. as you do! So, no, it's not just UPC people.

I also feel strongly about TV. That is why I have a 92" screen in my home theater and a 42" one in the den.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I'm doing great, CC1! Hope you are doing the same! We have church at 2:00 p.m. these days. I really like that!

What do you mean by Pontiac and GLU?

Okay, you took too long to answer and I need to go to bed. I have to make a run into Austin early in the morning! Viva la Austin!!

Ron and AFF this response is only my thoughts and not directed at anyone on this forum. Please just consider my point. I am not wanting to argue with anyone...

Why have the United Pentecostal Church been using the medium of radio, through the harvest time broadcast for over 60 years?

When they started to reach out, to stations to carry the harvest time broadcast.

Radio was the medium of the lost for that day.

Along comes new technology that could reach so many.

Yet we say we do not want "our message" to go over the TV broadcast waves.

When most of the "our" churches can't even reach the folks on the street their church is located!

I would say the only argument you might want to use, for staying off TV.

Is the fact you haven't even reached your own back yard yet.

So why try and reach the world beyond our forgotten steeples.

Jesus preached from the boat off shore.

So the masses could hear him. His voice carried further into the crowd coming of the water.

He preached on the mounts, so the masses could hear him.

He used the technology of his day, called the laws of nature, to enhance his voice.

He used the temple that represented less than what he came to fullfil.

Yet he used that medium and gathering to preach...

He also went to sit with the lost and outcast.

Many today would never think to visit and speak at a temple, where it represented less than their message.

Because to them they do not love "The" message, they view that temple as below them..

Yet Jesus came to seek and to save the lost.

How will they, those you call lower hear without a preacher?

Many would not be seen with the lost or the outcast.

I watched the video and he did just that, he was confident in "The" message, and the Lord will bless him for it..

You should love the message, and be so confident in preaching the cross, that no place, medium or gathering would be beneath your sharing "The" message...
