Not trying to be mean, but aren't you doing the same on the Internet?

Television IS a tool. People use it for business. They sell products and you can buy products. People can teach the bible and you can learn the bible. Our local Junior College has classes over cable
The question was for Hometown Guy and was semi rhetorical....but thanks for your good and reasonable answer.

Hollywood is a city and little of what is on TV is produced in Hollywood anymore.
Hollywood seems to be a code word by some to mean "ungodly stuff".
San Fernando Valley is Porn capital of the world according to some so we can use the word "San Fernando" when referring to the internet. But of course we know that not all stuff that is on the internet is porn
oh please prax, you know what im talking about. lets try to be adults here so we discuss this.
Neither side of this debate will ever win...so it becomes pointless and is certainly not something to get worked up about...
As I see it, there is no scripture for either side that defends or upholds a technological prohibition or permission...scripture simply tells us what the works of the flesh are and to avoid them...it also tell us to set nothing wicked before our eyes...for David it was a bathing woman and not a screen...there have been more men fall to entertaining feelings at the office with a co-worker than with a tv for sure...
What do we do preach against going to work? The answer here is a definite "No". We preach self control and accountability.
There is no doubt that more people have been tripped up by the internet than by tv...the internet gives the opportunity to view porn in secret, to foster relationships in secret, and to view things that are not even available through any TV feed--including pay channels...the secret to not entertaining the works of the flesh on the internet boils down to self control and accountability...
Same goes for TV...without self control and accountability one can indeed fulfill the works of the flesh on this medium...to those who feel they cannot control it, it would be best to abstain...even I preach that...LOL...but I preach the same for the internet!
Bottom line to me is whatever is a hindrance...cut it off!
BK, for those of us on this side of the debate....we just have a hard time understanding why one would allow the internet and be so dead set against TV on the basis of a "garbage can" point...it would make much more sense to simple say, "We preach against TV because that has been our landmark and we are not moving it no matter how technology morphs together or changes..."
Surly you can see what we hold as the point of not understanding the no-tv/pro-internet stand....there is so much more garbage on the internet than TV it is unbelievable. Matter of fact, since the FCC has NO jurisdiction over the internet---like they have over tv---it is even more dangerous (right now the only jurisdiction over the internet is law enforcement personnel going after child porn stuff, other than that there is NO jurisdiction over internet content...even in most libraries). There are many things available here that are not even allowed on pay porn channels on any TV feed including satellite...and you can find them for free...

Prominent members of this board chose to believe the lie and even continue to spread it, even though T1 had totally proved it was false.

If you want to be adults then stop the insults right now and discuss it like adults. Hollywood is what? Go ahead and define it and keep the sophomoric insults to yourself

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:
There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
Every sinner must repent of their sins.
That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.
And am I not wrong in saying that you are just wetting the appetite of that child? They will no always be young and innocent, but they will soon find Disney a bore!
Huh? Quality programming and intellectual stimulation have nothing to do with ill content. Your analogy is full of holes. They will soon find Winnie the Pooh, Nancy Drew & The Black Stallion to be boring, but I will expect that by that time I will have instilled enough character that they will STILL choose books with wholesome content, albeit on a more MATURE level, and read that correctly, MATURE, not inappropriate.
I'm currently working on whetting the appetites of my children by exposing them to the arts, to good music, to good literature, to well-made films, etc. And you're implying that is whetting their appetite for...what, exactly?
Let's see if I can make this clear and logical for you:
Right now my children are reading Nancy Drew. Later it will probably be Walt Whitman or Jane Eyre.
Right now my children like watching Animal Planet. Later it will probably be HGTV or Mythbusters.
What in the world leads you to connect the dots between "bored with Disney", must watch "something R-rated????"

I do! LOL!!!! It's really simple, and actually easier then flipping through every single channel. With our remote, you right click, and your show keeps playing, while a transparent box pops up at the bottom of the screen...and you can flip through the other channel TITLES and INFO, without leaving the channel you're on until you find something good. I also click a little info button when I find something promising to see what its rated, and what its rated FOR.
I also have certain channels completely blocked, so they're never accessible. Not even possible to surf by them on your way to HGTV.
Technology is an amazing thing.

Kendrick, the point is that many people have Biblical principles engrained, and that is what keeps them right no matter the medium or technology. I have learned to guard my heart and not selectively attack technology. It is this ability to guard my heart that keeps me whether there is a TV, computer, real live women walking around, billboards, etc...
Of course I do not know you so this is not directed at you in particular, but I have noticed that a lot of the people who are so hard-line UC do not really learn how to guard their heart. I have heard many hard-liners complain after church about what a lady was wearing and how much it showed...and if you put a gun to my head I could not have told you who they were talking about because I'm not even looking at or for that.
Perhaps this is why many of them find it so inconceivable that someone can be responsible and disciplined in what they choose to watch.
It's kind of like coloring in a coloring book versus painting on a canvas. There are those who are handicapped to the point that they think it is impossible to paint a beautiful picture with your heart unless all the lines are specifically given to you.
So true. Good post.
So many people have spent their lives controlling their environment, that when the environment changes, so does their morality.
