Bro. R.A. Beesley, former DS of our district, once preached a message titled "Why You Should Attend Church". It was excellent. It should be preached in every church at least a couple times a year I think.

Along with the laxness we can see in many other areas of living a consistent Godly life, laxness and inconsistency in the area of church attendance is becoming a problem.

Stop and think about how hard our fathers and grandfathers worked -- much harder labour than what most endure today -- yet you could find them consistently out to church, prayer meeting and supporting the work of God in all the important ways. They didn't have all the luxuries we have today.

Subsequent generations have become less disciplined, less responsible and less consistent in some of these areas.

Don't mean to sound preachy or judgmental because it's not about that at all. But when you stop and think what some people endure and the cost they pay in serving Jesus Christ ....... thinking here about some of the foreign countries ..... just something to consider perhaps.

How dare you muddle up this great dissertation on demanding preachers with common sense?

Some people don't have the option to miss work. If my husband wakes up with the flu, he still has to go to "sick call" for the doc to check him out and say "yep you're sick, go home" or "no, you're not sick enough go to work." Some people don't have sick days and if they don't go, they could lose their jobs.

Then go to church, and sit in close quarters and expose everyone else to the bacteria/virus and get countless others sick?

Thanks, but I would rather you keep your bugs to yourself.

This is so true. I just used this example Sunday morning.

Hahahaha! I haven't read the whole thread yet, but I think I am the COMPLETE opposite. I would stay home from work in a minute, but go to church that night when I lived in TN. I hated my job but I loved the teachings of my Pastor. I am sure someone will say its about priorities (again...I haven't read the thread yet) and I think that is true.

I almost stayed home from work today (CUZ I AM BORED OUT OF MY MIND....TRANSITIONING TO A NEW PROJECT SO ITS SLOW) so this thread really caught my attention! I'd rather be somewhere else....

The Answer: Because they are paid for being at Work...

To Increase Church Attendance and Growth we need to pay folks for being there....

Just a thought...

Our forefathers worked a very hard physical life… I know the sacrifices they made and I honor them for that…I am 4th generation Apostolic and have a heritage to be thankful of…that impact is why I know and serve my God today.

As much as I respect the generations before me, they did not deal with the world that we deal with today. Our lives are lived at a much faster pace. We accomplish in one day what they might have tried to get done in one week. The Internet and technology that contributes to the fast pace world in which we live can never be compared to fifty years ago. The lives they lived, it might take a week to get a piece of mail that we receive in seconds….and of course we have to respond to the business as fast as we get it. The mental stress that this generation lives under is easily comparable to the physical stress of yesteryear… actually, I feel it is more stressful in many ways.

Times have changed… lets face it, move on and accept that it all depends where our hearts and commitment is as to whether we attend church faithfully or not.

Btw, I just heard on the radio on my way to work this morning that people are exchanging the Internet religious connections for going to traditional churches… people are finding their spiritual fellowship and guidance on the Internet and church attendance is down. Very interesting, I thought that was the gripe about T.V.

foreverblessed,

I don't like what I see but i believe you are right. they predicted this trend a few years ago and it's coming to pass.

In 10 years, there will be more people involved in online churches and
house churches then conventional church so say the predictors. I hope they are wrong but i'm afraid they may be right.

People today are very mistrusting of churches and pastors. Don't get on my case i'm not agreeing with this just stating the way society is leading to.

Well, for those that believe the internet is less dangerous than TV, their argument just got weaker.
