Adino,

I'm confused by what you wrote. Does faith come simultaneously with repentance or before repentance? Why do you think coverted means believe?

"Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; NASV

Mizpeh, I understand that saving faith in Christ can only come in the heart which is humbled and contrite before God. The contrite heart is the fallow ground awaiting the seeding of the Gospel. Faith does not come before repentance. Faith comes only upon hearing the Gospel. Faith completes repentance in that it is that element which completes the returning of the contrite heart to God.

In the phrase "repent and be converted" I understand "repent" to point to the heart humble and contrite while "and be converted" points to the call to a return to faith in God. The repenting heart is to "return" via faith. The NT directs this returning faith through Jesus Christ.

In OT repentance there was an implied return to YHWH in faith. The repenting Jew was to return to God. In the NT it is assumed that the repenting person was to return to God, yes... but the addition was that the heart was to return through Jesus Christ. Whereas repentance in the OT involved the contrite heart returning to YHWH in faith, repentance in the NT involves a returning to YHWH through acceptance of the record God gave of his Son (1John 5:10-13). The object of faith in repentance is now Jesus Christ. To believe on Christ is to believe on him who sent Christ (John 12:44).

I'll tell you once again, since I know that southern water might be messing with your memory.... faith takes place in repentance.

It is the heart returning to God (repenting) which takes the path of faith in Christ. Repent and convert (believe) that your sins may be blotted out (Acts 3:19). The New Testament message was one of repentance and faith (Acts 20:21; Hebrews 6:1; Mark 1:15).

The message isn't only that we are depraved and should return to God humble and remorse. It is that we who are humble and remorse should return to God through Christ. The repenting heart can only fully return to God upon hearing the Gospel and trusting in Christ.

God revives the heart of those who have a humble and contrite spirit.
Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
God revives the heart of the humble and contrite ones (i.e., of the repenting ones) by his word. The repentant heart is born again of the word/Gospel (1Peter1:23). When the Gospel is presented to a humbled and contrite heart it will be quickened to faith thus completing the return to God.

The contrite heart is revived.... it is made alive.... it is born again of the word.

Faith comes by hearing the word (Romans 10:17). The repenting heart that believes in the Gospel is passed from death unto life and is born of God (John 5:24; 11:25; 1John 5:1; John 1:12-13; 1Peter 1:23).
My goodness, Adino ... It's so plain to see.

Mizpeh, your 21 st century Apostolic concept of conversion is confusing you as to what it means to turn to the Lord.

I doubt you do ... mine are custom made in that they don't have any gold appearance on them, and they attach to my pants inside the waist with buttons.

I don't believe in wearing any appearance of gold, including belt buckles.

Nice. Did I mention I was Old Order Mennonite (like Amish) until I left as an adult? You are way to worldly for my people. Your church probably allows radios and cameras.
