Re: Women Preachers

Prophecy and tongues contrast in whom they edify.

He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.

a. He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself: Some have wrongly thought Paul says this as a criticism. Their idea is “you selfish Corinthian Christians! You are using tongues to only edifying yourself, when you should use it to edify others!” This is wrong. Paul is simply stating the nature of the gift of tongues. Since he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, it follows that it is a gift for self-edification, not church edification.

b. He who prophesies edifies the church: Because prophecy can be understood by all, a true word of prophecy builds up everyone.

Re: Women Preachers

So Paul did not mean a woman could not speak in church...the Talmud keepers wanted that to happen...

Re: Women Preachers

In the next age we will all judge the world and the angels. 1 Corinthians 6:2 ..Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts? 1 Corinthians 6:3 ..Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life? Surely if women are going to judge the world and the angels in the future, they are also to be mature Christians who are obedient to the command to judge prophetic utterances here in this life as Paul commanded in 1 Thessalonians 5:20, 21.
Prophecy is to be given and judged mainly IN THE CHURCH and is to be judged by believers.

Re: Women Preachers

I am not saying all women who preach are prophets or vise versa...I am talking about speaking in church... NO WHERE does the Bible say Lady, don't preach. If we take the Bible the way it reads without a clear understanding what Paul was solving and teaching then a woman cannot sing, pray, give a testimony or speak in tongues...The Talmud keepers wanted that...But Paul proved he did not believe what they taught or agree with what they wanted.

I was taught that. It was shocking....

Re: Women Preachers

What was services like in the days of Paul? Let him answer for himself.
Each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation: Paul sees the gathering of the church as a time when people come to participate and to give to one another, not merely to passively receive.

Sounds like women were involved just like men...

Paul goes on to say, Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

Re: Women Preachers

One of the strongest points for women preachers is the fact that ROME (church councils) took them OUT of the ministry. For Rome to take them out they had to be there first! That can be proven by reading and studyng the church councils.
We must always remember we are a part of the first church...the book of Acts church where men and women went everywhere preaching the word of God. We are not a part of Rome and its systems and doctrines.

Re: Women Preachers

Strong men are not intimidated by gifted women. And strong, gifted women who have Christian character would never try to compete with men or undermine them. We are all workers together with HIM that called. May we always respect each other and where we differ may we still be kind and of christian character.

From what i understand of the arguemnt it is based on the beliefe that paul was a member of the sanhedrin (probably misspelled lol). If that is true then he would have have to have been married. What happened to his wife i dont know. I simply made mention of the arguement for the purpose of throwing a different point of view into the mix but as i stated earlier weather Paul was married or not really doesnt matter since he never claimed to be a pastor.
