I don't know if it has been sad before, but I have nothing against them unless they are the see-through sort. It would be horrible for them to be so transparent that you could actually see the woman's ankles. SHOCK! BLASHPEMY! NOT TO MENTION THE BOTTOM PART OF A WOMAN'S CALF.
When you wanted to marry your wife, did you ask her dad or father figure for her hand in marriage?
Are you doing to teach your son to call everyone who is an adult by Mr. or Mrs. Lastname? I have to admit that I attempted to teach my kids to do this, but was met by 'oh, just call me Betty'. That was never allowed when I was a kid, and no way would an older person permit themselves to be called by their first name by a child.

Buffy, meet Jack Baur. Thousands of lives are at stake. I will use any means necessary to get you to church on sunday. Your country needs you. Your church needs you.
sorry about the tangent.. the symbolism is too great to pass up.

No, I'm sorry, the fact that someone is abled to get ordained by an organization and find enough money to finance, or get enough people to follow them, or some other men to appoint them. No, I'm sorry that in itself does not garner any automatic respect from me.

As a matter of fact, I did ask my wifes father if I could marry her. You better believe that I will teach my child to say yes sir/ma'am and no sir/ma'am. He will call them Mr. and Mrs. (lastname) these things are still done today.
