you have it backwards bro. We ARE being ripped off by congress and you are suggesting that we trust this same bunch of thugs and thieves to take ownership of 1/7th of the US economy.
Obama spends a couple of trillion dollars we dont have, on top of the trillion or so GWB spent last year that we dont have, then claims he is going to cut the deficit in half in 4 years, all the while talking about all the new spending and growth of government that is going to take place, all while the economy is in the tank and going down harder in light of his first month on the job....
and we are supposed to trust this guy to lead us to Universal healthcare?
Dude has some serious trust to gain.... and still there is this dispicable congress.... really you trust these guys? these social engeneers?
snort.
Brother Ferd....
You bring some interesting implications up. With businesses struggling like they are more and more are going to drop or reduce coverage for employees. We'll see this later this year where my wife works, they're already grumbling about it. Why should business be expected to pay for extremely expensive health insurance plans for employees? I think it's an unfair burden on businesses. I think it's far more equitable for the American people (via the government of the poeple, by the people, and for the people) to secure group rates to lower premiums and pay for it individually as single payers.
I wonder how much it would stimulate the economy if businesses no longer had to pay for employee health insurance?
I wonder how much it would stimulate the economy if more Americans had an extra $200 or more a month because of being picked up on a national single payer system? That would increase individual purchasing power by about $2,400 a year.
Forget the massive "stimulous package"...universal health insurance might do the trick.
25 years ago I worked for a company that built missile launchers on ships for the government. I saw what the government was willing to pay for nuts and bolts........and we won the bid because we offered the lowest amounts.
Nothing government is cheaper.
But you're assuming that the plans aren't existing. They already exist. Government employees and members of Congress have them.
It's simple market forces, it's nothing like buying nuts and bolts.
First imagine a company negotiating group rates for 300 million employees. That's essentially all the Government would be doing. Then each citizen would a very low premium because of the sheer numbers paying into the system after subsidization. If you think a massive corporation's health insurance plan works well....imagine a corporation negotiating cost for 300 million employees.
I often wonder how much personal responsibility plays into health care needs. We know it does to some extent. For example, an overwieght smoker who sits around all day and eats fatty foods is going to cost more in health care than someone who eats right, exercises etc.
True. So what's the answer...deny coverage to fat people?
Then what about those with obesity in their genes?
Also consider this...
If they had less expensive health insurance, they might see the doctor more. That means their doctor would be better informing them of their condition and they'd be more likely to quit smoking at the first sign of problems instead of allowing it to go until it's an EXTREMELY expensive series of cancer treatments.
The French and the Canadians are rated as having better health over all because they see the doctor more and are more aware of their health's condition.
I was pretty ticked off last year at tax time. We had to pay some capital gains tax on a rental property we sold, but my husband had had cancer. So, they sock it to us on capital gains and don't take hardly anything about the cancer into account.
Several major issues there and I feel for you. If you dont' mind me asking, how much are you (we) paying for cancer treatments?

Bro, you keep running down that path without ever dealing with the fact that we have the insane running the assylum. We dont trust this congress!

Quite a bit of personal responsibility is factored in. Except the "responsibility" is always the person who makes a buck more than you. THEY are the ones who are really responsible for YOUR mother/father/grandparent/yourself when it comes to your needs, be it health care or otherwise.
Hmmm....I guess you don't believe we are our brother's keeper?
My creditors use the US Postal Service and don't seem to have a problem with it.
The US Postal service is going bankrupt. They have a captive audience and cannot even make enough money to break even.
It isnt just about getting a piece of mail some place on time, the system is broken.
and if you were to take a poll I suspect you wouldnt find many people who like having to go to the post office. I know I would rather have a tooth drilled than make a trip to the US Post Office!

Aquila, the American health care system is a discussion Americans have to make for themselves, I just get a little irritated when I hear "Disinformation" & "outright lies" about our system by people who are only going by the info American media or American medical establishment tells them.
They just don't realize how badly the American people are being snowed. It's really funny in a way. They believe the government's fleecing them...when their paying far MORE out the nose to these companies that are telling them that the government's fleecing them. Go figure.
