Re: Living Arrangements

In my opinion, living arrangements with the opposite sex should only be used as a last resort only, unless of course they're brother and sister!

People talk, and rumors would fly no matter how well intentioned the situation was. Is one's reputation worth risking?

Ecc 10:1 Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: [so doth] a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom [and] honour.

Re: Living Arrangements

I have to ask. was this thread for real? Was it an honest question based on a possible scenario, or was it an attempt to start a thread that might generate a lot of talk?

I dont have a problem if it was the second. That's ok by me.... but really? Do real committed Christians (even non-pentecostal ones), honestly think its ok for men and women to live together platonically?

REALLY?

Things have changed so much:
1. In the past a kiss before engagement was a no no
2. The man asked permission of the woman's parent's to marry their daughter
3. We didn't believe in or participate in divorce
4. Men actually took care of theri families
5. Right and wrong was an easy thing to determine...

Now:
1. Sex before marriage in the norm
2. Parent's have to impress the fiance
3. Divorce is acceptable even in ministry
4. Women support and take care of men and the children
5. Lines of sin and right & wrong are blurred by circumstance and gray areas

It is a sad state of affairs in the church and the world.

The Bible tells us about what will be happening in the last days:
* Children will be disobedient, unthankful, and disrespectful
* Men will be lovers of pleasure and themselves more than others or God
* The saints will be worn by these things from satan.

Romans 14:16 (New Living Translation)
16 Then you will not be criticized for doing something you believe is good.

And as you posted from the AMP:
Rom 14:16

16 Do not therefore let what seems good to you be considered an evil thing [by someone else]. [In other words, do not give occasion for others to criticize that which is justifiable for you.] AMP

If you think it good and justifiable, then don't worry what others say.

Now I don't have time to get into this...

I do see your point, but IMHO it means to avoid the appearance of that which another might conceive as being evil.

A hard thing to do 24/7, but I think it is something we should at least strive for...to live so that the gainsayer and innocent bystander are without reason in their judgement...gotta run...
If you will notice I added these comments to my first post!

Yeah, we had a brother and sister who are our age living together and people said there was incest going on...Like I said there is no way to avoid the appearance of evil in all things.

The New Testment, in the Pauline Epistles it states that to the pure all things are pure.

The opposite of that is that there are many people with evil hearts that devise wickedness and spread evil gossip no matter what the situation.

Again I say, "The best we can do is the best we can do in regard to these situations."

Rhoni,

That verse has been misused by many in the charismatic circles to have "Pure" adultery, fornication and etc. I would stay away from that verse to justify what you are wanting to do, whatever that might be!

Just because we question the looks of a situation like you are describing does not mean that we all have dirty minds, maybe Scotty excluded. We just have been around the block and know that if it looks like a skunk, walks like a skunk, smells like a skunk, it's probably a skunk!

not an answer to my question....

but you would be interested to note that my pastor at the time (when 3's company was all the rage) didnt preach against TV.

BUT one sunday he did make a strong request. He said, I have never said a word about people having television in their homes. I teach that we should be mature christians and trust that we are.

but I am requesting that those of you that have television not watch 3's company and Sanford and Son. He gave his reasons they were very solid and bibilcal. I still wont watch those shows, and the reasons he gave then guid what i watch now.
