How anyone got the idea that we unbelievers have to prove there is no afterlife, yet feel no obligation to prove their position, is beyond me.

Because Jesus already has told us there is an afterlife, and we trust Jesus and his words.

And you believe the people who chose the canon (one particular canon, that is) were right, and that the people who wrote in those books some of what Jesus said were right. And you believe that certain other people who decided which ancient books were inspired by God were wrong. And that some quotations of Jesus, from non-biblical books, were wrong.

You see no need to prove certain quotations of Jesus, and, apparently, no need to disprove other quotations of Jesus. (As if that were even possible.)
