Whatever the "denominal" (I hate that word) people do, the A-church (thanks, Carpenter) stands against. After 5-10 yrs pass, the A-church has no problem implementing what the "denominal" people were doing 5-10 yrs ago.
Just an observation...
You are totally right on!

I've seen it. If we really have the goods, why are we not leading the way? Why do we let the "denominal" (the def. of that word is nothing near what we make it out to be) people test the waters with music and the next 'program'? They should be following us. Am I missing something here?
Disclaimer:
Program doesn't mean program, it means whatever I think it means in my own mind
Exactly! Since those young people are no longer taught what it is to have a personal relationship with Jesus that comes through prayer and personal devotion, we MUST keep them entertained with the newest and latest 'stuff' so that they will park their carcasses on the pews. My mother-in-law was of the same frame of mind, though a sinner, in that she made sure to provide her boys (my husband and his little brother) with drugs and alcohol at home to 'keep them from going out to party'. It is the same line of carnal reasoning, and THAT is why so many young people, at least in some churches, aren't interested in 'just church'. A relationship with Jesus is about crucifying the flesh with the affections and lusts thereof; the philosophy of the world - adopted by carnal folks who attend church - is that we have to keep the thrill going, keep the flesh tantalized. How utterly sad!
Whoa! Hold on a second woman!
You are talking about MY youth group in MY church.
Who do you think you are to say that this youth pastor (that being ME) as well as my pastor,
QUOTE:
"no longer teach what it is to have a personal relationship with Jesus that comes through prayer and personal devotion..."
Have you been to my church? Have you heard me preach and teach? Have you heard my pastor preach and teach?
All because we have a stick drama team and this sort of thing doesn't float your "personal conviction boat" you are going to make false accusations like this against ministers that you don't even know?
Go get the beam out of your own eye before you come inspecting ours for specks!

I guess it's funny that we adults think of entertainment concerning ourselves different than that of children. I mean, I used to be a member of a church that had the McGruders perform about once a year, and we passed out flyers to churches, restaurants, and laundrymats to spread the word that the McGruders were singing.
I have to admit that while I didn't take a poll on any of those occasions, I think it's safe to assume that not a one of those people who attended that singing came to church because of God, but rather, because the McGruders were there. Can we be honest and admit we are that way also?
But have a group of kids perform things like stick dramas and clapping and stomping acts to Christian music and suddenly, we believe that their entertainment is worldly and they don't do it unto God. We reject it as bringing the world into the church while justifying our own form of entertainment.
Let's get real here. If the McGruders couldn't keep a tune in a bucket, would you go to church to hear them sing? I mean, shouldn't we be going to church for God and not entertainment??
If we were honest with ourselves and open our eyes and minds a bit, we'd see that the only difference in what we do and what they do is only justified in our minds as to what is right and what is wrong. What we do is right, what they do is wrong.
Pathetic.

Wow......I wonder what it's going to TAKE to keep them in church 40 years from now??
Kids are being saved and staying in church because we make it about THEM??
Most kids are not as selfish as you seem to make them out to be. Most kids are saved and staying in church because they simply hear the Word preached and are drawn accordingly. That's all it will ever....EVER take
If thats ALL it will EVER take then you best throw out that Sunday School curriculum you use. Oh yeah and get rid of that choir and special singing too. Nothing in the bible mentions these things.
Just preach and teach the Word straight from the bible. Keep the worship plain and simple...no fancy choirs or groups or soloists. No sirreee...Just stick to the WORD cause "That's all it will ever....EVER take".

What a bunch of two-faced hypocritical nonsense.
Wake up and smell the coffee!!! We are LOSING more kids than we KEEPING!
I've been a youth director for OVER 20 years. Don't tell me it isn't so.
Maybe in your church you've been lucky but statistically overall, WE ARE LOSING THEM!

Isn't this the truth?
And you know it actually gets much more simple than this...
I wonder how many adults could honestly say that they would attend a church where the pastor always delivered the "Word" in a plain, dead, dull, boring, MONOTONE fashion with no voice fluctuation or expression, no illustrations, no examples outside of scripture, no personal comments or thoughts added, just PURE UNADULTERATED WORD OF GOD straight from the book.
Come on now. If the preaching or teaching of the Word wasn't made interesting and delivered in a somewhat "entertaining" fashion we wouldn't attend that church for long...we'd find another!
Get for real people. Double standards, not standards themselves, are killing our kids.
