The churches mission is not to bring in people to sit in pew for one service. Had there been a preaching/teaching message to speak TO those people, I'd agree.
but that is the whole point, there wasn't

Not often, especially when they had to endure through an hour long program of honoring strangers (to them)

What's the harm in giving up a couple of services each year to do something special for others?

See the first post. People are or could be alienated, particularly people as I mentioned: New converts who are not dads and or don't have dads, young people whose father's are in prison.
Let me ask...why CAN'T we have a "program" AND a regular service at the same time? Other churches do so I know it's possible. Why alienate people whose fathers are dead or deadbeats just so we can do something special for dads only? Don't forget that a lot of those same people might never get a special program just for them. Most people take their dads out to lunch and give them a card or something special already...

And the problem with saying "Well, I'm not going to go since this doesn't pertain to me" is that you may rob the visitor of the full effect of the entire congregation.

...He's gonna be impressed by me sleeping in the back pew.

Can someone explain the shrill and furious fist shaking at the thought that our brothers and sisters are being alienated and that I (Im not the only one) don't go to these long boring programs? The vitriol and anger? I find that amusing. Does the DA know why people would give a rats behind what I do with my time or why rather than feel sympathy towards those whose fathers are dead, in prison or just deadbeats they instead display apathy and even disdain? Where is the Love? This thread was supposed to be about the alienated and Id say the majority of posters have instead attacked me personally instead of shown sympathy towards those who are or might be alienated by what we do?
