I believe it goes this way because we are UPC or at least have been UPC. I can't talk of what goes on else where even though I'm completely aware that it goes on everywhere.

Does that make sense?

I do think we have an obligation to uphold an ideal, and a sense of integrity in our pulpits. The world loses confidence in the church when we ignore or cover up sins that we so often preach that God wants to deliver folks from.

Imagine the complete lack of power present in someone who habitually struggles with this, having no desire to repent because the action is viewed as manly and normal.

I like what MOW and some others have said about being merciful. I definitely don't believe all sins need to be revealed publicly or all truths spoken. But I feel that a "leader" who will not submit and repent needs to have the chutzpah to step down.

He/she for sure needs to refrain from teaching others about holiness until the issue is resolved.

I was under the impression we were discussing UPC and not any other demonination. My personal experience is only with UPC and no other affliation so I would have no idea how they handle the situation.

Why can't you talk of it going on elsewhere? Especially if it is known to happen elsewhere? Why keep it specific to a group that some here would as soon vilify and condemn?

Seems better to keep these topics in the generic instead of the specific. It is much easier to address the core issues, which are not organizational in any fashion.

You were under the wrong impression. No one ever made it specifically about the UPC. (Except you, that is. )
