It has happed once or twice that I know of but for the reason you think, there was a shortage of specialized nurses.
We are competing in a global marketplace & meed to compete for a shrinking pool of labour.
I know of nurses who went to the Middle East for pay that was 100,000 plus!!
That is with no specialties!
We constantly have American hospitals coming up here holding career fairs to keep thier hospitals staffed.
It isn't because the system doesn't work.
I know, we can just do like the States & only treat those that have money!
I have a Canadian friend who Pastors down in Washington State who pays 800 bucks a month for his family!!!
It isn't even a comprehensive plan!!
Up in Canada, the same cost is 108 a month for a family!
Facts CC1, Facts!
BTW, I never had to wait for a CT Scan!
Ron do you have an understanding of WHY you have a personel shortage in Canada in the medical field?

I often wonder how much personal responsibility plays into health care needs. We know it does to some extent. For example, an overwieght smoker who sits around all day and eats fatty foods is going to cost more in health care than someone who eats right, exercises etc.

I was pretty ticked off last year at tax time. We had to pay some capital gains tax on a rental property we sold, but my husband had had cancer. So, they sock it to us on capital gains and don't take hardly anything about the cancer into account.

Quite a bit of personal responsibility is factored in. Except the "responsibility" is always the person who makes a buck more than you. THEY are the ones who are really responsible for YOUR mother/father/grandparent/yourself when it comes to your needs, be it health care or otherwise.
To be honest, I don't know what the right answer is...I see both sides of the argument. I have serious concerns about government anything...and then again, people need health care.
Is the plan working for Congress?
I think that's key.
You see the Government negotiates lower group rates for Congressman and employees, thereby reducing premiums and then they essential subsidize it like an employer does. IF the Government took up 300 million people, could you imagine the group rates that would become available? WOW. The premiums would be in the basement and the necessary increase in taxes to subsidize it wouldn't be anything near what we're paying in premiums right now.
Key would be insuring that all of Congress, and the President, were on the same plan. If their health and their family's health was dependent upon it they'd make sure it works.
Aquilla, you still havent done a blessed thing to get anybody here to trust the same government who has given us the postoffice and social security to give us Universal Healthcare....
You might as well be asking me to hire the town drunk to drive a school bus.
My creditors use the US Postal Service and don't seem to have a problem with it.
They don't care Ron. They like being ripped off...and for some reason they can tolerate uninsured Americans dying of treatable conditions.
It seems to me that they are against the American government and the American people. I just don't understand it.
Aquila, the American health care system is a discussion Americans have to make for themselves, I just get a little irritated when I hear "Disinformation" & "outright lies" about our system by people who are only going by the info American media or American medical establishment tells them.
