Personally, I feel that men serve positions of leadership better, but that God will use a woman when He sees fit (and not just when "no men are available"). I also thoroughly dislike women preachers who are loud, aggressive and masculine and I can't see how that kind of behavior possibly glorifies God anymore than effeminacy in men.
I don't agree with the concept that a woman who speaks to a congregation with the permission of her husband, church elders and the congregation is in any way usurping authority over them.

I'm pretty sure that those men who are utterly opposed to women speaking in a church or feel their authority is being challenged with every female utterance probably have a pretty low opinion of their own manhood and have far greater issues to deal with.
Like the man who constantly demands respect because he is not the type who people are inclined to give it to automatically.

Straw man and Red Herring Alert!
Randy, that's simply not true. Nice generalization and way to throw the discussion off-track.
Is this emotional style debate that has plagued AFF on this topic. One angry ranter, and 50 AFF'ers dropping anecdotes and biases off as biblical evidence.

You just basically called out those who oppose women eldership as being insecure, misogynistic, bigots. I find that unfair and not helpful for discussion (and very much unfair).

So good point on this. We know the "deacons" were posts also held by women. These were people who "came beside," attended to, and were involved in the administration of church matters.
Whether distribution of the food, taking offerings on dangerous road trips, visiting the sick, etc.

Nice wording or you would have been "tagged"!!! LOL

No, YOU called them that. I just said they were insecure in their manhood. (And not ALL, just the ones completely unwilling to listen to well reasoned scripture and stick to their preconceived doctrine.)

*throwing hands in the air*
You didn't give a disclaimer -- and even with a disclaimer, the perception that most are like that is just false. I know MANY of these brothers (and their wives), and it couldn't be farther from the truth. So stick with "well reasoned scripture" not anecdotal falsities.

Re: Do You Believe In Women Preachers?
1Timothy 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. Read chapter 2 and 3 you will see that Paul was teaching Timothy about church protocol and the qualifications for the ministry. When a woman teaches or usurps authority over the man she has gotten out of the natural order that God set up for the ministry. The reason that no qualifications were established for female preachers is that they were not recognized by Paul. You don't find women preaching in the book of Acts or any laying on of hands by the presbytery for ordination.Women can have all kinds of ministries as long as they don't teach or usurp authority of the man. They can be used to operate the gifts of the spirit, older women can teach younger women, they can teach children , they can prophesy/ not preach but fore tell of things to come. The rules were laid out by Apostle Paul in a plain easy to understand format that does not require a phd in theology to understand. Priscilla helped expound the Word more plainly to Paul in her home/kitchen table type setting not pulpit type ministry.Deborah was a Judge over Israel still not a New Testament pulpit ministry. When the eleven went out to perform the great commission they did not ordain women to preach.I would never hold license with any organization that would so blatantly disregard the Word of God in favor of man made doctrine.

Why yes, Caston (of olde). I do believe in women preachers... but I also believe in a Lake of Fire, too!
