Deja vu all over again. Shades of old FCF all over again - popular poster leaves, hysteria sets in, lemmings start following the leader off the edge of the cliff.
I'm not calling MOW the leader of the lemmings - he's like anybody else, he has free will and choice.
Now, that simple statement of faith is not so different from the old FCF - the sky is not falling, it is open for interpretation. Thing is, AFF belongs to its owners, the ones who pay the bills. Their call, their choice regarding the direction they want to go.
Say what you want, but the headcases on here have driven off many of the old solid posters and caused others to lurk or comment only from time to time.

Now, let's see if we can work up the angst and righteous indignation level a few more increments.

This makes more sense than all of the conspiracy theorists combined. Someone chose not to be here. Already other threads have stared to theorize that rules were designed for an uproar.

Some must live in a world totally void of excitement.

vitriol will get you nowhere.

clearly direction is the key here. and clearly this forum is still trying to figure out what it is. Direction is the key. some that left need to unleave. some that left took their toys and went home because they couldnt shut the other side up.

we dont need any side shut up. we do need to understand what the direction is. is it a place with a free flow of ideas? is this the "Arena of Ideas" we all wanted? or has it become a safe place for safe conversation among some friends? the first makes AFF important. the later makes it just like every other forum out there.

hey Ferd,
If BOOMM is saying he appreciates and welcomes MOW
and
MOW is saying I want to step away because of things he's departed from long ago

this is MOW thing not an AFF thing.

Can you help me understand how you can make it an AFF thing?

Ferd,

I think MOW made it clear that he left without being asked or 'forced'. He left because his idea of how to run a forum basically differed with other Admin it seems. Again, in his words there was no disrespect or vengeance.

I don't post much but I seem to find quite enough in the 'arena of ideas' you speak of. Sadly, I have personally talked to many of those conservative minds that have left and their reasons bother me.

AFF is a fellowship. Some want it to be a battlefield. Some see it as a firing range. I, myself, find it less 'fun' when I have to dodge shrapnel. Does that mean that all conservatives are 'running' and 'can't defend their stands'. Absolutely 100% NO. What it means is that a few with vendettas make it not worth the trip.

It happens on BOTH sides. The extremes will always be exteme to some. It would be wise for us to not make this a 'they want to veto one viewpoint' charade. If a forum like this survives both viewpoints have to be allowed.

That makes way too much sense to be accepted when some are seeking drama.

MOW I wish you well , and one has to do what one must do.
I do appreciate your kind spirit.
You have been charitable to those who have a differing viewpoint than you.

No vitriol here. The problem has been one of direction. I am by no means an ultra con or a con but I have seriously pulled back from posting.
I like MOW, but, he made a choice to leave. That's his choice. Why all of the angst? If ownership wants to keep a tighter rein on things to avoid an NFCF fiasco then kudos to them.
The estrogen level is at flood levels here today.
