I've been kicking around some different ideas for a few weeks. I have a desire
to do an old fashioned road trip. (Did those a lot when I was a kid) I would
like to go out west, but I don't have the time to do a roundtrip on the road from Tennessee to the west coast.
An idea I'm considering is the following:
Day 1 Fly to Phoenix, pickup rental car, and drive up to Flagstaff
Day 2 Grandcanyon
Day 3 Drive to my sister's in Riverside, CA
Day 4 Visit family in Riverside
Day 5 Drive over to the coast and begin heading north on coastal highway
Day 6 San Louis Obispo, Morro Bay, and Hearst Castle
Day 7 Monterey and Big Sur Coast
Day 8 turn in rental car fly to TN out of San Fran area

Give me your opinion on this itinerary

How would you compare the San Louis Obispo area with Monterey?

I wish I could....

It was the afternoon of January 14, 2004. I was on my way to Monterey. I heard reports of its beauty. We decided to take a drive.
An hour into the drive we flipped a Camaro....

Wow, were you on the Coastal highway when this happened. It would seem
like an extremely dangerous road to wreck on. Of course flipping an automobile is dangerous on any road!

No, we were not on the coastal hwy. I don't think we would have survived a plunge into the sea.
We did come close to going off a cliff in the area that we were driving. If the driver did not [over] correct his stearing sooner, I'm sure we would not be alive today.

Sorry I couldn't help you

Haven't read the thread but I am currently at Dickson, TN in a hotel waiting for my son to finish with Youth Camp. The we leave here for a week of sun, ocean, seafood, golf and relaxation at Hilton Head, SC!

Later this summer (in July) I will go to Ohio for about five days during Fourth of July. Later that month a group of men and boys from our church will go to Norfork Lake in AR and the Norfork River and White River for camping, boating, swimming, diving, and fishing for trout for three days.

I would like to take a trip up to St Louis in the not so distant future.

I really want to take my wife (eat your heart out Lucy) to this place for her birthday in mid-August.
