So they knew that Pugh's shoes could be sold and Barnes' couldn't? And how did they instantly come up with that?
Plus, he starts grinding on the audience and doing the typical, "Come on people, it's dead in here" thing. And that was at the beginning. If it was dead, and it wasn't planned, it would have stopped right there. The department (which is in financial trouble) had this planned.
No way it was staged. I'm with DAII on this one.

Disagree, you didnt watch it close enough he keeps turning behind him and asking if its ok to go on ,also someone comes up from the audience and hands him a note, right after that he says Tom Barnes shoes cant be sold.Your making a mountain out of a mole hill, its for missions, who cares how they raised it(and dont give me the anything is legal argument you know what i mean). It was totally spontaneous. He is there to take an offering, someone shouted about Bro Pughs shoes, the TW Barnes thing was towards the end, even Anthony bid on his dads shoes, for crying aloud relax !We have all certainly made DA happy with this response though, right up his alley.

I'm not sure it makes me sad - -it's just really what conference is about.
I think conference services are a lot better now than they have been in the past. Very organized.

He asked once if it was ok and that was several minutes after it had started and after they'd already sold a couple pair of shoes. Good grief almighty, just listen to that...."After they'd already sold a couple pair of shoes." Good heavens.
The fact that he was told they couldn't sell Barnes shoes only proves my point. How did he know he could even sell the shoes in the first place? He didn't ask anyone in the beginning if he could. When the guy yelled out from the audience, he started trying to get bids and scolded the audience for not bidding. Sorry, but the facts don't back you up.
The verdict is in: Staged.

Interesting, though, that the only argument here is whether or not it was staged. There seems to be no defense for the auction itself.

I think it's their gig and they can take up offering any way they want to - it's no surprise they have marathon's taking up special offerings at GC.
Don't understand what the big deal is with you guys.

Really? that's what conference is about - raising massive amounts of money by selling off people's shoes?? I guess I've been out a lot longer than I thought. Or else I never understood what the conferences were all about to begin with. I'm not disagreeing with you, Renda. Just trying to figure this out in my own mind.
I still think it's sad. Because IF conference really is about raising all this money - that's got to break God's heart. I always thought it was about sharing the Gospel, rejoicing with fellow believers and spending time in the presence of the Lord. But then again, I was never privileged to go to a conference, so I probably have been wrong all along.
Renda, I don't want you to think that I'm arguing with you. I have the highest respect for you.
