Here is one example of what I consider "sensual" worship.........

Quote:
JARS OF CLAY LYRICS

"Love Song For A Savior"

In open fields of wild flowers,
she breathes the air and flies away
She thanks her Jesus for the daises and the roses
in no simple language
Someday she'll understand the meaning of it all
He's more than the laughter or the stars in the heavens
As close a heartbeat or a song on her lips
Someday she'll trust Him and learn how to see Him
Someday He'll call her and she will come running
and fall in His arms and the tears will fall down and she'll pray,

"I want to fall in love with You"

Sitting silent wearing Sunday best
The sermon echoes through the walls
A great salvation through it calls to the people
who stare into nowhere, and can't feel the chains on their souls

He's more than the laughter or the stars in the heavens
As close a heartbeat or a song on our lips
Someday we'll trust Him and learn how to see Him
Someday He'll call us and we will come running
and fall in His arms and the tears will fall down and we'll pray,

"I want to fall in love with You"

It seems too easy to call you "Savior",
Not close enough to call you "God"
So as I sit and think of words I can mention
to show my devotion

"I want to fall in love with You"

"my heart beats for You"

Now I know some will disagree with me . This is also by far not the worst I have heard. One major reason I consider this a sensual song is I have heard it used several times as a love song and not in any way for worship to God. Now if a song is written in worship to God in my opinion it shouldn't be able to be used as a love song so easily.

Now I tried to find the lyrics to the worst one I heard but I couldn't remember the name so I will have to give you a synopsis of what I remember. It basically kept repeating "I want to be intimate with you" along with "Intimacy is what I seek". The songs music sounded like something you would hear in a light rock love song, and it was never made clear who the person was wanting to get intimate with. It turned me off instantly.

There are some that have great lyrics that by themselves I find very moving but the music it is put to gives it a sound that is sensual in a way. I don't know that I could explain other then to say thats the feeling I get from it.

More and more I also feel songs are being written for a womans perspective. Which I have absolutely no problem with. I just think there should be balance.

Sis Alvear,

I know of some tapes of a Mens Retreat that was held here in AL where the minister preached from the Song of Solomon every service. Those tapes have got more men in hot water because of the subject matter then I care to mention.................

Into thy chamber, sweet Holy Spirit
speak to me softly as I close the door
Heavenly lover, let thy presence hover
Shekinah, unending, is what I long for

That chorus is from the seventies and is far worse than any I've seen posted so far.

See those lyrics turn me right off. I feel like it is way to close to an earthly love song for my taste........

There IS something effeminate about being driven by emotions and self-pleasure. Such as when people pick a church like this: "Oh, I LOVE this church, the music is WONDERFUL!" or "Oh, I don't think I will settle down and serve in THIS church, can't stand that music, ugh!"

(It goes beyond music, as well...)
I am not trying to promote feminism in the Church. My point is it is foolishness to condemn music because of words like "wonderful" or "beautiful".

Is not Jesus the WONDERFUL COUNSELOR? Isaiah 9:6

Are we not told to put on our BEAUTIFUL GARMENTS? Isaiah 52:1

The Church itself is considered as a BRIDE to Christ. Even a chaste virgin.

To me there is music that is more spiritual than other music. I admit I dont think much of what is called contemporary Christian music today.

However the Charismatic praise and Messianic worship I came up with from the early 70's and the 80's is IMHO far more spiritual than 90 per cent of the Hymns I remember singing whether it was in the Freewill Baptist Church or an Apostolic Church.

If the doctrine of two Churches was equally true I would attend the one that had worship that took me deepest into the "love realm" with Jesus.

I love listening to Messianic worship songs. Is something wrong with that?
