Obviously, in years past it was more obvious and blatant racism at the root. There was a lack of genuine concern about issues in other communities at the root of the coverage. Now, I honestly don't think that it is as malicious on the end of the media.

The issue to me is not whether those stories would make headlines...many times they do. The issue is whether there would be sustained coverage. No new developments, just sustained coverage predicated on sustained general public interest.

Now if we want to discuss why people do tend to be more invested in stories that affect people most like them, that's another story. I just can't see the media covering the story of a black family as a headline or feature story every day for months without anything new to report ar without any sort of developments. I also think that if they thought people were going to be glued to their screens and soaking it in...they would do that.

Violence and even death was happening in inner city high schools long before Columbine. But when Columbine happened....

I think it is just the nature of the "majority" to not be as concerned about the minority, many times not even out of malice.

The "Mob" had been killing each other for years before innocent bystanders started getting killed as their crime began to affect society as a whole.

There are those that suggest that scientists had known about the existence of a certain sickness that leads to the death of homosexuals-- but HIV was not thoroughly investigated until main stream Americans started getting sick.

doesnt justify it though does it? Things dont change because the government makes it. things change when there is serious public pressure brought to bare.

now there are all kinds of complications as it relates to innercity violence and why it doesnt get the media attention. but when your just talking about some poor kid getting killed by their mom, we only hear about pretty little white girls. dont get me wrong, Im not saying they deserve less attention because they are white (which I am too) but we almost never hear about the same kind of thing happening with a brown boy lets say.

I think you are right. Im just saying that race ought not be part of this process but it is. We certainly have not gotten to the place where we are post racial....

Blacks have been in the back pocket of the Democrat Party a LONG time.

FOX's reputation was "earned" long before the election. For those who were inclined to think badly of FOX before the election definitely could find reasons to feel worse about them.

It's all in the presentation of the "facts" and perception of the viewers.

I will find it but I heard a report that a non-partisan media watchdog group rated Fox as the least biased news source above all others on television during the election. Folks don't flinch when the daily Palin attacks take place or the fawning Obama coverage (see Deborah Howell's editorial about media bias in the Washington Post Sunday) b/c the media has been attacking conservatives for years. But when a Fox News reporter asks a tough question Clinton goes ballistic, Obama shuts Fox out, MSNBC daily rails on Fox, the Democrats won't allow there to be a debate on Fox, on and on. I watch the coverage and they are equal opportunity journalists. Its just because they are the exception to the rule they stick out among the 75% of the journalists that are in the tank for the Dems. Liberals cant handle being scrutinized.

Did anybody take notice that when Palin finally was interviewed it was with ABC and CBS? Does a Democrat do their first interview with Fox? No way. Its Larry King or The View or Ellen or Matthews or Olbermann
