Re: McCain's VP pick - Sarah Palin?

she's got something more important than "experience".....ethics.

In spite of the drama in her state with her ex-brother in law.....it's all media hype.

Yep and an article I read said that she has actually accomplished some things as a Senator, which Obama cannot claim.

Re: McCain's VP pick - Sarah Palin?

I heard she really doesn’t have a lot of experience (but the same can be said of Obama). Here are my initial thoughts….

Since Obama's campaign is so historic, McCain needs a "history maker" of his own. In addition he's got to try to seize the disenchanted Hillary supporter whose primary focus was advancing women in politics. From my understanding she's also rather inexperienced. That’s actually a weakness Biden can attack. The McCain ticket begins to look like a ticket with an old man who might die at any moment, opening the door for a very inexperienced female president. Obama looks young, open minded, and teamed up with a foreign relations and national security player, Joe Biden.

I think McCain made a mistake in waiting until after Obama made his choice. It looks like even McCain thinks Obama's in the driver's seat and that McCain's choices will simply be reactionary attempts to politically counter Obama's decisions. Bad move McCain. McCain could have come out strong with Sara Palin earlier, putting Obama on the defense. Had McCain done that he could have started tapping disenfranchised angst of die hard Hillary supporters, perhaps causing some uncomfortable moments in the Democratic convention. And maybe even have gotten more traction in the polls. Obama would have then had to consider the Sara Palin factor and been forced to strongly consider Hillary over Biden, which would have weakened the ticket.

McCain essentially followed Obama's lead and reacted by making a "political" choice, not a choice based on skills and experience brought to the office itself.

Those are my initial thoughts.

he made a smart move not announcing his choice till the day after the democratic convention. They had no opportunity to trash her during their convention and took some of the day after thunder away from Obama after his speech last night...

and McCains remarks about Obama were classy, his choice for VP, smart...and the Obama remarks today re: Palin.....underhanded, immature and surprising they would stoop to such asinine remarks.

Re: McCain's VP pick - Sarah Palin?

Chris, you think too much.

Sarah Palin is young yes, but she has been a Cheif Executive for 2 years (that gives her 2 years more experience than Barry when it comes to running government).

She has taken on Ted Stevens who heads the political machine in Alaska and won.

She is a brilliant accomplished outsider who actually has a history or reform.

McCain the Maverick who has never taken pork spending, picked a Maverick Republican woman, while the Barry the change agent went with one of the biggest institutional insiders washington has.

I think Barry's pick is the failure (considering he took a hit in the polls in the aftermath of the announcment)

You know, you make a great point. McCain sets aside the politics of the day to be a class guy, while the "class guy" Barry Obama in his speach was down right degrading to McCain on a personal level.

McCain = Classy
Obama = same old junk in a new wrapper.

She's also Governor of Alaska with an 84% approval rating, which Obama doesn't have under his belt.
