You don't have to tell me MB. People dump dogs on the side of the road out here in the country. A little bird shot is not gonna injure a dog very much if you can hit them in the backside. But if you put some ammonia in your trash bag it will usually deter them. It should also keep cats out of your trash. Yes I know what you mean about strays. Do you live in the country?

He said he'd rather have a pump action rifle. I used to own a .357 Magnum, but sold it. Wish I would have kept it.

Which would you rather have and if you have/had your choice, which brand, model, etc. would you prefer?

TIA!
Why not get both a handgun and a shotgun?

Personally, I prefer either a Glock-17/19 or a SW99. (I have both). The Winchester 1300 defender makes an excellent defensive shotgun as well.

Yes, we live in the country. I'll have to try ammonia.

Winchester's are nice weapons.

The trigger finger is the only safety I need.

I don't carry weapons that have external saftey switches.

Problematic if I have to unholster in a hurry.

It's real simple. Don't pull the trigger until you are ready for the big "boom". Hence, don't put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to pull it. Hence, don't point the gun at anything you aren't ready to destroy.
