Dear Crazy,
I find it takes years for a woman to grow up and mature to gain the strength and the knowledge to even know that she is bound. Many times women are do depressed and even on anti-depressants knowing they have a problem but not knowing exactly what it is.
Thank God for Pastors who preach/teach about healthy relationships that are pleasing to God in dating, and in marriage. Some have nothing to compare to so they don't know they aren't happy until one day it dawns on them...it is then that I or others like me can affirm them and tell them they are not wrong for wanting out of an abusive relationship or an abusive church.
God is the Wonderful Counselor and when we fall into his arms, he protects, comforts, and sets us up upon a rock.
Thank-you Jesus for real men and women of God who can teach others the ways of God as seen through God's eyes and not man's eyes.
Blessings, Rhoni

I am not oppressed, don't think I ever was and that was because my parents were balanced and so was my Pastor.
Well, I'll have to backtrack a bit on that...
I have to say that growing up in church was quite the adventure. There was a girl in the youth group who hated my guts. Pastor asked me to sing a solo in the middle of service - so I did. The next day I was called out of class to go speak to my pastor. He said that a young lady had reported that I was wearing tinted lip-gloss and wondered why I was allowed to sing on the platform. He asked that I sit out of choir for a month. So I did.
That was not pleasant. And it was not the only time something similar happened once that precedent was founded.

Would you mind answering the question about whether you think the Bible has a "cultural bias"?
|
You have to be kidding. The bible was written 2K years ago in a different civilization. We cannot even begin to compare our western mentality to the Jewish enviornment of that day. God's word is His word, not ours. Paul clarified this many times when he stated this is from me and not from God. Of course Paul wrote out of his own personal experiences as we all do. The cultural differences of our day are incomprehensible. To think anything else is pure ignorance. Sorry. I belive God's word is true and believe God is infallible, but not man. Everybody but Jesus has problems friend. We are all broken trying to let Jesus pick up the pieces.

Just getting ready to go out ........ standing in front of the mirror fixing my hair and your thoughts here mirror mine as I was thinking on this.
True liberation is found in Christ Jesus. I'm thankful for the liberation I found in Him.
I pray you all find it too.

I thought that was where you were heading.
If that is indeed your view, we have very little common ground on which to have a discussion, since you are questioning the infallibility of the Scriptures.

It's not? How could the many peoples and eras NOT be culturally biased?
Throughout the OT, there are many practices that we would consider ungodly, but were a part of their culture...polygamy is just one example.
Or are you speaking of something entirely different?
