Re: Depression
No where in the Bible is paradise considered death or the grave.

Ecclesiastes 9:4-6 KJV
For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. [5] For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. [6] Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
Psalm 146:3-4 KJV
Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. [4] His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.
Psalm 88:10-12 KJV
Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah. [11] Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction? [12] Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
Psalm 115:17 KJV
The dead praise not the Lord , neither any that go down into silence.
Psalm 6:5 KJV
For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
Ecclesiastes 9:10 KJV
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
Isaiah 38:18-19 KJV
For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth. [19] The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.
What is the hope of the Christian? According to the majority of churches, preachers, teachers, and those who profess to be Christians, it is to go to heaven when they die. But what is the hope of the Christian according to the Bible?
Acts 24:14-15 KJV
But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: [15] And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
1 Corinthians 15:16-19 KJV
For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: [17] And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. [18] Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. [19] If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 KJV
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. [14] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. [15] For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. [16] For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. [18] Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
According to the Bible, when folks die, we are to comfort one another with THOSE words, which are all about resurrection. Yet today most people seek comfort in words about how the departed are in heaven enjoying the company of the saints etc, that they really aren't dead but have just moved out of their old body and into a mansion in heaven or something.
The majority are not in agreement with Scripture.

Re: Depression
AFF is like preaching, we need to be careful of rabbit trails....
This thread was inspired by a dear Pastors wife seeking help in her depleted state of depression and anxiety. How does it go from the original to this?

The Bible doesn’t contradict itself because God is the same. I still can reconcile your verses with mine and still believe in the remaining of the soul after death. I don’t want to derail the thread. It is a good topic, though.
That being said, what you said about comforting with being in heaven after dying that is true. People don’t really understand that they do need resurrection. The souls go to a place of rest with the Lord that is never called heaven. We are not complete without a body. People do not think, wish or preach much about resurrection anymore.
