We had dressing in Illinois, but it was made from white bread. NASTY STUFF!!!! I never knew I liked dressing until I moved south and had cornbread dressing. Now I love it! I was just meant to be a southern girl, I guess.

No, it doesn't taste like cake at all. Cake tastes totally different. You should try some real southern cornbread and then your eyes will be opened to the truth.

South Carolina doesn't count as the "south"; it's the east coast.

Can't get anymore southern than Paula Deen:

Paula Deen's Cornbread Recipe #208758

6-8 servings
30 min 5 min prep
1 cup self-rising cornmeal
1/2 cup self-rising flour
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine all ingredients and mix well.
Pour batter into a greased shallow baking dish.
Bake for approximately 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool.

Also, check out the recipes on the cornmeal bag - no sugar.

That is not a true Southerner, because sugar in any veggies is nasty and a northern thing.

This has proven that you don't know what the south is, because you're a true yankee.
