I see what you're saying, but I don't agree in the context in which we're discussing His reputation. His reputation was one of righteousness and holiness. He would not compromise that to reach a sinner.

He made of himself NO reputation. He humbled himself...no reputation. Get it? We are not speaking of compromising anything.

Who was responsible for protecting God's reputation before Christ?

As far as I know, God is not interesting in protecting His reputation. No one beforfe Christ went about trying to protect it as far as I know. Never am I. God's Word is "Yeah and Amen." It is not God's reputation at stake, it is the reputation of man before God.

Didn't the Lord say He did what He did for Isreal for His "name's sake"? If they couldn't protect His honor, He'd do it Himself. They couldn't. He became flesh and that man went about glorifying His Father. When He glorified His Father, was He not protecting His Father's name, thus His reputation as THE Almighty God of Isreal?
