Nah. Lott's comment was intended to "honor" the octogenarian Strom. I'm very certain that everyone had Strom's old segregationist ways buried deeply in the past.
All Lott said was something along the lines of "Strom ran for president once... and if we had him as president today (during Clinton's term) then things would be a lot better..."
Strom T. had campaigned hard for segregation back in the 1950s and early 1960s when he was a Dem. By the time he cleaned up his act and was accepted as a Republican in the 1980s he had completely dumped his old racist ways and apologized many times for it.
Lott's error was in trying to take a jab at the Clinton presidency by rehearsing the Thurmond run for president almost 40 years earlier. He should have just stuck to the "nice old man" that was sitting in front of him and let the past be, even if it meant passing on a cheap shot at Bill Clinton.
No, that's actually not what Lott said. He directly referred to the time when Thurmond ran for president and said we wouldn't have all these problems now if he had been elected then. Here's the direct quote:
"When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We’re proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over the years, either."
no. He is no more "under oath" than you are driving down the road singing Billy Ray Cyrus songs.
The incident in question concerned Bill Clinton raising his hand, placing the other on a bible and swearing to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help him God.
He then told a factual lie that misled the court in a case concerning sexual harrassment charges that had been brought against him.
Martha Stewart landed in jail for doing exactly this.

So? Marino doesn't, Jim Kelly doesn't, Boomer doesn't, Cunningham doesn't, Tarkenton doesn't. Would you really take Dilfer over them? I think not.
That is not a slam on Dilfer. He was a very decent QB, managed the game well, was fairly mistake free during their Super Bowl run. However, you can't call him better than all of the above simply because he has a ring. He was in a great situation with a fantastic defense.
Considering he is only 33, and will probably play 3-4 more years, he is going to be in the top 15 of most of the important stats on the all time list. He is a great QB, and will easily be a hall of famer, far above Dilfer and Plummer.
I think he hurts more than he helps. It's more than his style I don't like. Heck, I actually LIKE his style. It's his attitude and spirit I get sick of. It's the bitterness, complaining, negativism, racial garbage.....
I tell the truth, I have never heard Rush say anything racist. If I had to take a stab I could only guess whether you might be referring to something against Jews, Caucasians, Blacks, American Indians, Hispanics, or others...

Articles on such subjects as "The New Birth," will be accepted, whether they teach that the new birth takes place before baptism in water and Spirit, or that the new birth consists of baptism of water and Spirit. - THE PENTECOSTAL HERALD Dec. 1945
"It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves
but really in all honesty at the time Rush made the comments DM was being talked about as "one of the greats" He was considered in some circles as the best QB in the game.
Neither of those things are true. DM will likely make the Hall of Fame but I would not vote him in because while he is good, he is not a great QB.
He has never been the best QB playing the game and there have always been 4 or 5, every year that are/have been better than he.
That was objective. He is better than average. he is good. But he has never been superlative.
oh man....so that makes you a Tony Homo fan...errrr...Romo fan? I grew up in IN. and now live in WI. so i've been spoiled to see and cheer for very good/great QB's.

No, get your facts straight, Ferd. Martha Stewart was convicted of securities fraud and obstruction of justice. Not even close to lying under oath.
