Re: Praying People Through

O I will tell ya that is my opinion on the reading but if you think you can lay your hands on someone and fill them with the holyghost it's not me you are going to have to answer to so I really don't care if you can or can't..

Nice dodge. Let me ask you the question a third time:

Are you saying that since the Holy Ghost "just happens", a person should not pray [even by himself] to receive the Holy Ghost?

Actually there is no reference to "giving messages in tongues" in 1 Corinthians 12. Chapter 12 tells us that we are all baptized in to one body by one Spirit, the same Spirit working in us all (1 Corinthians 12:13). Paul seems to almost go to pains to point out that this "same Spirit" will then be manifested differently in each member of the body (1 Corinthians 12:7-31).

1 Corinthians 14 does offer some instructions concerning speaking in tongues, perhaps you intended "14" here and not "12."

But here we are not given any distinction between "speaking in tongues as evidence of the Holy Ghost baptism" and "giving a message in tongues." In Chapter 14, we simply receive instruction on how to address the congregation. "In tongues" if there is an interpreter, however prophesying appears to almost always be preferable.

Re: Praying People Through

No they should not pray for the holyghost then you would be seeking it and no one in the bible was ever seeking for the holyghost even in the verse above you posted where they prayed for them for the holyghost it still did not happen until hands were laid on them...

I suggest some further study on this, KW, because it doesnt seem that you have a proper biblical understanding of this here.

Again you prove yourself to be scripturally off-base on this.

You say no one should pray for the Holy Ghost?

Jesus said in Luke 11:13 that God will give the Holy Ghost to them that ask him!
"If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"
So I can choose to believe you, or believe the Word of God. I choose the Word of God.
Case closed.

Luke 11:13; John 4:10 and John 7:37-39 ??? We are told to ask, not to necessarily run around looking for someone to lay hands on us.

Pel,the reason Paul wrote to the congregation about the gifts of the Spirit was their improper usage of them,In 1.Cor.12 the reason Paul asks do all speak with tongues,is that in a congregation setting all do not speak with tongues, tongues without an interpretation would be of no benefit to address an assembly with, prophesy or inspired teaching would be of more benefit sure because a congregation can understand teaching and preaching in their language.

So, for example, it would be improper for a preacher to address the congregation in tongues over the microphone when he obviously has no interest in seeking an interpretation? Just an example...

I think it would be because he is not edifying (sp) the church cause no one understands him if they do they need to interpret so others can be educated...

Believe it or not I agree with you on this one.
