Verse 1:
Let us kneel and pray in the old-time way,
Let us kneel and pray in the old-time way,
Let us kneel and pray in the old-time way,
He will hear us and be near us,
We’ll be given bread from Heaven,
He will feed us until we want no more.

Verse 2:
Preachers preach the word in the old-time way,
Preachers preach the word in the old-time way,
Preachers preach the word in the old-time way,
Tell the story of His glory,
It will warn men, it will turn men,
It will save this old world from sin and shame.

Verse 3:
Let us blend our voices in the old-time way,
Let us blend our voices in the old-time way,
Let us blend our voices in the old-time way,
Common meter, they’re much sweeter,
When you stop singing, bells keep ringing,
It will linger right down in your soul.

Verse 4:
Let’s go down to the river in the old-time way,
Let’s go down to the river in the old-time way,
Let’s go down to the river in the old-time way,
Sons and daughters buried in the water,
Coming up shouting, nobody doubting,
Everybody happy in the service of the Lord!

After conferences in 1944, the PCI and PAJC met in 1945 and successfully merged to form the United Pentecostal Church under the collective agreement on the following statement of fundamental doctrine:

The basic and fundamental doctrine of this organization shall be the Bible standard of full salvation, which is repentance, baptism in water by immersion in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.

We shall endeavor to keep the unity of the Spirit until we are all come into the unity of the faith, at the same time admonishing all brethren that they shall not contend for their different views to the disunity of the body. - Manual, UPCI 1994

We hear a lot about keeping the unity of the Spirit but what was the basic
and fundamental doctrine or teaching that was agreed upon! Was it not
spelled out!

Just some thoughts,

Falla39
You bring up a good point Falla. The Fundamental Doctrine that you quote however, is the original from 1945. The Fundamental Doctrine was changed in 1973 to exclude the PCI's so-called "one stepper" viewpoint.

Yes it was spelled out! Then it was changed.

The change has made the UPC more exclusivistic (only those adhering to the UPCI's new Fundamental Doctrine are "saved") and more cultic.

Part of the method for implementing this change was to keep all of the details under the table. No open discussions were ever allowed outside of closed board rooms. The majority of UPCer's were completely ignorant of the change and the types of pressure that was being put on the former "PCI" believers. Silence was not only golden, it was the key to success for the 3 step takeover.

You can read all about it at the UPCI's Historical Center: http://www.upci.org/historical/

Oops! I guess you can't read anything about anything at the UPCI's Historical Center anymore. Remember: SILENCE! is golden.

If you ask a hundred people, you'll get a hundred different answers to what the landmarks are! Your "landmark" might be someone else's pothole!
