Either:

1. persuade
2. describe
3. entertain
4. explain/inform

As for why people post on and read this forum varies. The concentrations and interests also vary. And so, quite frankly, having read the popular posters here ... I have enjoyed the diversity of writing styles and opinions offered. The ignore feature and or logging off is an option for those who don't like a particular poster's style and/or purpose.
