On a brighter note..I truly believe it is as crazyhomie has stated: Christ came and died that we can be free from the curse. Sometimes we have to fight for and defend that liberty. Thank God for Paul as he wrote to the church in Galacia!

This is not the spirit of Chirst. This is offense and anger.
To answer your question, the bible is 2K years old and culturally God does not expect this generation or any other generation to adhere to the abusive treatment of women that was and still is a part of many cultures including the middle east. The muslim world today still dengrates women to the extent that the fathers are justified in honor killing their daughters if they disgrace the family. My answer is YES, Jesus liberates all. Where the spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.
Coupled with the other post that I had to ask several times to get you to respond to, I am beginning to think that you really do consider the Bible to be culturally biased.

I thought that was where you were heading.

If that is indeed your view, we have very little common ground on which to have a discussion, since you are questioning the infallibility of the Scriptures.

Where's the disconnect?

The title and topic of your thread establishes the context.

I am defensive about things I love.

The Church and the ministry are on that list.

Maybe you can help her then, if she wants help that is. I have some wonderful resources we can recommend.

Absolutely, Jesus didn't die to liberate the macho elite. He died for everybody, whosoever will let him drink of the water of life freely...Jesus is free He doesn't cost anything. What we do for Him is our devotion to Him and our love for Him.

I disagree God will honor your friend. The bible does not command a woman to stay in an abusive relationship, contrary the opposite is true. She obviously has a boundary issue and needs counseling.
She's beautiful, highly educated, successful, and intimidating to men everywhere too.

If you don't believe me, I can point you to posts that will fill you in.

Is there anything I said in that you disagree with?

I disagree with your implication that the age of the Bible has anything whatsoever to do with its relevance for us today.

Would you mind answering the question about whether you think the Bible has a "cultural bias"?
