The Pharisees made such strict rules that they ended up making hypocrites out of people. That's exactly what has happened here, IMO. People are going to have TV access, yes even most UPC preachers. It's 2007, for goodness sake! TV has good things on it, as well as bad. Just like the internet (only the internet is WAY worse unless you have premium movie channels on TV).

So, because people are human and want to live an informed life, they have TV's even after signing the AS. I think it's wrong, but it's real life. Therefore the organization is making it easier and easier to be a hypocrite. If they would do away with the LAW and let the ministers be mature enough to make decisions on their own, then they would not have to be hypocritical to do what they feel is ok by Scripture.

If men are Holy Ghost filled, they should be mature enough to make decisions like this based on the Word and on personal convictions. YOU CANNOT LEGISLATE HOLINESS no matter how hard you try. Some men who have never had a TV still have ilicit affairs, porn problems, homosexual tendencies, etc. just like men who DO have a TV. It's a matter of the heart. GROW UP!

Glad I got that off of me!!!

But... hey... you don't watch tv, so you have absolutely no idea what it is like, so its not like you have a valid opinion on what is on television...
It's not like you'd listen to one.

if you were telling me everything on tv is evil? No, I wouldn't listen, because its such an absurd statement that it is obviously coming from someone who has no clue what they are talking about...

If someone had a valid opinion? Yeah, I would... I listen to what other people say all the time... When they can actually support what they say and back it up...

You cannot legislate any sort of morality.

However, you can make certain behaviors be conditions of membership / fellowship.
I could start a club and only allow people to join who had your name tattooed on their arm. Folks would not be confused about the membership requirements. Get the tatoo, get in. No tattoo, no membership. UPC preachers who hanker after television in one form or another are akin to the posers writing "Sherri" on their arms with laundry pens.

And the UPC has even gone so far as to provide a way of escape for those who find their trials in this present organization to be more than they can bear: The ALJC.

It's not the words that are spoken, because the same words are spoken on the radio and it gets a pass! It's the moving pictures!!!!!!

But I can see that you don't want to kick out the arrogant, prideful people who look down on anyone who doesn't think exactly like them...

its not even the moving pictures, because they can be obtained through the Internet...

Its the actual television connection...

no, can't be... because cable internet uses the same connection...

OK, I have no clue what it is... There is nothing about TV that can't be donet hrough other medias... this is the lamest ban of anything in the history of banning things... its like making beer illegal, but not making all otehr types of alcohol illegal and calling it prohibition...

I have a difficult time taking anybody seriously on this topic that hasn't read The Marketing of Evil by David Kupelian. I highly recommend you read this book. Then consider, in light of the information revealed in Kupelian's book, the fact the the TV resolutions, while not affecting any regs about ministry or laity having TV in their homes, would by their very nature grant tacit approval to the partaking of television programming.
