Give a clear response how we are to treat this.
Try telling his church it was gossip. Try telling the board members dealing with the issue it was gossip.

I believe you are still in a state of shock and hurt because of the esteem you held this man in. I understand that. The natural inclination is to call anything revealed that is bad about somebody you admire as gossip.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I'm just saying that the church is no better than the minister who leads it. Just saying that we have a lot of gossip because the saints know that the ministers gossip. They protect themselves and their brothers, but unleash on the saints.
I've seen it with my own eyes that ministers, unless they hate each other as I have seen some here do, will likewise hide their fellow minister's sins from the saints and from the world.

But, the premise here is that there is a minister who treated some well...mistreated others while preaching against things that he was doing himself.

The mistreated people are not likely to forget that. Are they wrong? Perhaps. But I happen to believe that Christ did not mean for one man to rule over others. He said not to. The Proverb: Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
(Proverbs 11:14)

The christian church would be wise to dump the one pastor to one congregation model and start having established equal leaders of the people. This way they can have the accountability with each other that is so often discussed here.

Just sayin...

CC1, either you do not get it or you are blinded somehow.
The issue is not if he did or did not--the issue is how it is being handled.
If you can not see that, well, what can I say?
I will go with how the Bible says we are to act.
As for the congregation, if they truly are hurt in the matter, screaming it to everyone isn't going to change the situation & is unbiblical.

I was there at first, UNTIL I learned of all the facts and what was what. Then I had to let it go and ask God to help me deal with it. I had to stop getting upset at things others who knew the facts were saying. AT ONE TIME, I did hold this man up in high regards until things began to go sour in the church and with him not being the loving caring pastor he was supposed to be. The one who preached it but was living the opposite~ The same man who some of my family members received the Holy Ghost under....but it is what it is. Shame that some people are still in the denial state.

Hmmm, interesting that you find it Biblical to slog people especially Pastors out in the open like this.
I too have been hurt & offended by Brothers & Sisters & yes, even Ministers.
You don't see me slogging them here, is this a "Memphis" type of Christianity?

Re: Dropped By & Somewhat Dismayed But Not Surpris

It is not a scandal when the church deals opening with the failure of humans (even ministers), it IS a scandal when like the RCC, the church tries to cover it up. Sin is what humans do, restoration and forgiveness is what the church should do!!! When the church deals with sin in leadership in a responisible way, it gains the respect of the community.
