That's your opinion.

No Im not mistaken because the comparison is "Why are we imitating the world"...ie doing what the world does.

I never posed the question "why are we imitating the world." I posed the question "What do you think of 'light shows' in churches." That's all.

So why are you? Why DO you imitate the world? Why DO you imitate football fans?

Why do I jump? Why do I yell? Why do I give my highest praise to Jesus? Why do I praise with everything that is in me?
Because God turned my life around and I'm absolutely excited about it.
When you're in the world and you get excited about something, people jump, people shout.
I'm sorry. I get so excited when I think about what Jesus has done in my life. You may think that sounds cliche, however when you're suckin on the end of a glass pipe inhaling meth, smoking oxy in your bathroom to hide it from your roommates, strung out all the time, and then all of a sudden you come into contact with Jesus and He delivers you from everything and gives you a new meaning for life...yeah man, I'm gonna get a little excited. Maybe He hasn't done anything in your life to make you excited, but He has in my life. It's so fresh in my mind. 2010 was the turning point, and I didn't deserve it. (another reason He is amazing.)
You asked. So there you go.
If you wanna sit there and look like a wall flower, more power to ya bro. Do what you do, and let me do what I do. I have no quarrel with people who don't like to praise and worship the way I do.
By the way, since you're asking me questions. How about I ask you one? When was the last time you broke out in a dance just because you couldn't contain how awesome God is?

I can rationally point out that being persecuted meant they had to be discreet.
Most churches were in HOMES..in fact all churches were till later when they started taking over or building their own temples.
Being in churches made them small
Having a small congregation meant the likelihood of having musicians in the congregation was SMALL
also being mostly POOR (as many Jews were at the time) meant not everyone had an instrument.
As the church grew larger and more accepted, musicians were brought into the church or church members trained for it.
Remember, this is not like today where an established church sends a piano playing wife out with a preach husband to start a church. THE Church had just begun

Oh please. Then go join the Church of Christ if you don't like music dude.
I did a quick study, and I'll do more in the future. From right now, based on what I know, they didn't have music, however they did have singing.
Do you worship in a church that has music?
If so, why?
Do you worship in a "pentecostal atmosphere" according to the modern definition of pentecostal atmosphere?
If so, why?
If you are on here trying to debate me, and you're involved in the same type of worship, praise, and similar church setting that I am, what is your point in this?

Nothing to be sorry about Bro. My turning point was in Febuary 1974. Jesus delivered me from alcohol, pot, ups, downs, lsd, mecaline, magic mushrooms, ect. I am still excited about it. I believe we should be fervent. Thats something we wont grow out of!

Re: Light Shows In Churches
So many people have developed a problem with Pentecostal praise and worship. They say that it does not take all of that to praise God. I say to people all of the time that my desire to praise God in an emotional way is in relation to what He has done for me. I see it as awesome in His work in my life. He has done so very much for me. And if someone wants to be quiet in their praise, that is their decision. But, as for me, what He has done for me is so awesome that I cannot be quiet. It is birthed out of a man delivered from lies, deception, abuse, and pain, and brought to the marvelous light of truth, faith, restoration, renewal, revival, and hope in Christ.

Re: Light Shows In Churches
I am a worshipper first and foremost. I was raised in Pentecost, and have never had any part of the "world" all my life. But there has always been a heart of worship within me, and I loved to worship the Lord with all my heart with praise, worship and dance.
I believe that if you are worshiping the Lord with all of your heart, you will not care about what others may think of you, because there is such a deep desire in your heart to worship your King.
I can recognize though, when people worship as a fleshly thing and to get attention. It is quite obvious. There is a lot of that which goes on too. But there is true heartfelt worship that will make your body light as a feather. I have worshiped the Lord at times when I felt I had no energy in my body to even move, and before I knew it the spirit of the Lord was upon me, and I was moving in worship to him in ways that my body wouldn't let me do before.
There is a true worship that is accompanied with a dance, but I have observed many times people just moving because of the beat, and as soon as the beat stopped, their worship stopped. As soon as the song stopped, their worship was over.
To be honest, some of the best times I have ever had with the Lord, have been with tears running down my face as I danced unto Him. I have never had a real, true genuine, life changing experience with the Lord Jesus that didn't involve tears, and it also almost always was accompanied by a time at the altar of repentance, and soul searching, before I could worship Him in that way.
Those times are life changing moments for me... when I left the place of worship, I was changed, from the inside out.
The beat, the lights, the emotional workup, the hype, the screaming... all that does nothing for me. But if there is a time and a place for heartfelt soul searching, and a genuine crying out for the Lord, and then worship comes, perhaps in the form of dancing, those are the times that you will see the glory of God revealed in your life, and you will walk out the doors of that place, and be changed.
Emotionalism, hype, lights, music, excitement, screaming, wild emotions.... do nothing to change the soul, but will leave you empty.
Give me a place where there is true genuine repentant hearts and spirits, crying out in worship to their King, and there you will find lives being changed from the inside out, with lasting effects, and all praise and glory due to Jesus.

Re: Light Shows In Churches
Wonderful testimonies here.
I suppose that God can save in any place, even while a bunch of strobe lights are whirling around and around.
