Below is a news report from last November that I have pasted about a woman who apparently was lacking in faith!
LONDON, Ky.
A woman who was bitten by a snake at a church that neighbors say practices serpent handling died of her wounds hours later, a newspaper reported.
Linda Long, 48, was bitten Sunday at East London Holiness Church, where neighbors said the reptiles are handled as part of religious services, The Lexington Herald-Leader reported Tuesday.
Long died at University of Kentucky Medical Center about four hours after being bitten, authorities told the newspaper.
"She said she was bitten by a snake at her church," said Lt. Ed Sizemore of the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.
Handling reptiles as part of religious services is illegal in Kentucky. Snake handling is a misdemeanor and punishable by a $50 to $100 fine.
Police said they had not received any reports of snake handling at the church.
Snake handling is based on a passage in the Bible that says a sign of a true believer is the power to "take up serpents" without being harmed.
Church officials could not be reached for comment.

I'm trying to understand your point. You find a passage that says one can stomp on snakes and try to fuse it in with a scirpture that says one can pick up snakes. Are you saying the passage in Luke is the literal translation while Mark was speaking metaphorically. Seems to me there are more analogies in the passages surrounding Luke 19:10 than there are in Mark 16.

Now for the passage I do not think you can isolate the passage from Luke 10:19. Coupled together with that I think it makes it clearer.

Snake handling
I have attended services years ago at the Holiness Church of God in Jesus Name in Newport, TN. It was a little clap board church with the back hanging out over a creek. It was difficult to get to as we had to park on one side of the bridge and walk across it as it was very rickety. They sang and shouted and screamed and ran and jumped and twirled and preached about One God and Baptized in Jesus Name and handling serpents and signs following.
The pastor was Liston Pack - he was also a truck driver. They handled many different serpents and one 16 year old boy - had about 7 - 8 of them at one time. They were VERY HOLINESS minded people. Most of them did not read or write. Liston Pack died of a snake bite several weeks after I was there. His brother then became the pastor and soon died of snake bite too. I did see them drink poison - handle fire and many other things without incident.
I talked with them at length and they were good God loving people - ONENESS PENTECOSTAL PEOPLE!
I have concluded - if you handle long enough - you will be bitten and you will die. JMHO

No need to to die from a snake bite ,if a snake bites you ,you just need to bite the snake and the snake will die.

The rattlesnake song..goes along with the snake handlers theme. One should get a chuckle from this.

Brother Atlanta what was it like to be in service at this church?
I cannot fathom being in a room with live snakes crawling around
on purpose. It must make your adrenalin go through the roof.
That may be why they do it too.Addicted to the charge.
