Well, but you've misquoted: "Many will seek to enter, and not be able..." they were not seeking God, but to enter. There are no contradictions in the Bible.

What, exactly, did Jesus "give up"? I.e., what did He have before that He no longer has, and never will?

Re: Should salvation be hard?

The thing is, it's what He didn't "give up". Because of His choice, He didn't "give up" on us.

Ya. Or, He gave up His sovereignty to become a bridge for you.

He's not sovereign anymore?

About hating family...

Timmy...surely you know that's not what Christ meant. Jesus used hyperbole to drive the point home that we are not to love, or place our hopes and happiness in, anything or anyone other than Him. True wholeness and fulfillment come from our restored union and fellowship with God.

On the physical plane, there is a sense in which He is not, but you are. (Are you also clay in your Father's hands? yes)
Your free will to act in this Realm, Ours, the physical, and to choose Life over death for it, is an assumption of sovereignty; we are to "be like gods."

Salvation isn't hard for God's elect, chosen in Christ before the world was, according to God's foreknowledge.

The elect rejoice to know and seek God's will.
