Reminder for Hometown Guy. If I misread, or misunderstood the above quoted, post, I apologize.

Sure you did.
Well, technically you just tried to make it seem like that was the only conclusion one could draw based on someone else's post.
Pretty much the same thing.

And the same with the men with their suits and hair styles.
Don't even get me started on cars and houses.
NONE of that makes us Holy or right with God, in fact it is just the opposite.
Yes, haughty spirits and looking down on people that can't afford to dress a certain way, exists in our churches just like it does in the world. And that is just WRONG!!

It has occurred to me that the institution of "standards" in church is really no different than the government passing "price control" legislation. Neither work. When the gov says "you cannot sell this pork chop for more then x amount of dollars" all you'll find is that the name of the cut has changed when you visit the grocery store the next morning in order to get around the new law. When the pastor says "women, you cannot wear jewelry around the neck, wrist, fingers, or face!" -all it does it move it to the hair which has already been partially protected because of the uncut hair doctrine. The same goes for any other standard. The principle is abandoned entirely and every loophole imaginable is found because the laws themselves are way too specific.

Your post in an over generalization as if all pentecostal women seek such a loophole.

He was actually being conservative - it's not just the women!

Well, not "all", just like not "all" mid westerners are dumb hicks who only have sex with farm animals. ( To quote James Kirk)

Sorry, just immediately thought of this scripture when I read that part of your post. Just seems a bit self-righteous to me, just my perception.

Re: Apology
MP, you did not grow up in the youth group I did. I watched them stand three rows back and cut up during the message. I saw them laugh their way through altar call. Almost the only time some of them responded was if an adult had them pray, and even then they just stood with their heads down. I have often prayed for them all, but I have watched as one by one they went out into the world.
It was not that way with all of them, but the vast majority did not want to live for God, and could not have cared less. When they came of age, they quit. I watched them marry, divorce, have illegitimate children, and partake of the worldly lifestyle. I still pray for their return, but I know what I saw and how we were treated.

I guess I'm curious as to what was different for you and your brothers, and the rest of the church youth group?
Did the pastor treat you differently?
Did your parents treat you differently than the other parents treated their kids?
I don't know your youth group, but I'd be hard pressed to believe that EVERY other parent in the church let their kids get away with murder, and only your parents stood for truth.
Sorry, just seems a bit of a stretch to me, and I did grow up in a UPC church which was pretty strict.
My experience was that the stricter the parents or pastor, the more likely it was for the young person to quit going to church - not the other way around.
