That is an understatement!
I consider Elder Legg and Shelly dear friends! He and my dad were very close. He preached several revivals for my dad when he was still a GIB. I am sure my dad, among others, had some influence on Elder Legg getting in the UPC!
Great great preacher and an even better man!

This thread reminds me of my days at Illinois District Youth Camp. We didn't play sissy slow pitch softball; we played FAST PITCH softball!!!
I was pitcher for our team and we went undefeated. On Friday, an all-star team is picked to play the preachers. I was selected as the pitcher.
I did pretty well, but they scored two runs. Pitching against us was Bro. Wayne Mitchell. He was awesome! Someone said he was a star fast pitch softball pitcher before he started preaching. We basically had a mili-second to determine where the ball was crossing the plate. While I had basically one pitch, he would throw chang-ups, curves, sinkers, etc. We didn't have a chance! We lost 2-0!

In Oklahoma, Elder Barry King was the man on the mound! He could throw a fast pitch drop ball that was there and then it wasn't! I HATED to catch him because he also threw a rise pitch that looked like a strike almost all the way to the plate and then you would have to jump out of your squat to catch it.
We always had an all star team that played the preachers too but I caught for the preachers cause no one else would try to catch Bro. King.
As I recall, Bro. Hill was also no slouch on the fast pitch softball mound!

The DS of South Dakota's cousin, Greg Legg, was quite a pitcher in high school and I used to love catching his heat! His breaking stuff was a little wild and catching him without a mask or protector was hazardous! He ended up going to AAA but as an infielder instead of a pitcher. Never made it to the bigs permanently and last I heard he was coaching in minor league ball.
The DS of South Dakota was quite a ball player too. He played for the Duncan Demons before he got the Holy Ghost his junior or senior year. He was a spark plug.... red hair and freckles and all the attitude to go with it!

I was a catcher from the time I was 8 all the way through college. I had major league throwing times clocked, nursery school running times (typical for a catcher) and could hit the ball a ton from both sides of the plate (no comments from the peanut gallery).
I blew out my knee and never caught again due to one of those catcher/runner collisions. Some folks from my in-law's church used to clean the baseball stadium for the AAA team for the Oakland A's. I used to go out to the field and stand behind home plate and just weep.
Just this last year, I got to run around the field at Coors Field with my daughter and her school. The Principal (who used to pitch with the Pirates and knows my love for baseball) saw me and he said, "ARE YOU CRYING????...ARE YOU CRYING????...THERE'S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL"...he was weeping too.

I went to the same school as Danny Jackson and Mark Gredzulonic (sp?), but they were a few years older than I. D.J. came back during Fall baseball and I caught him...wow. You have never seen the face of God until you catch a
89mph slider from a lefthander.
Thats about it.

I have never had the honor of catching something that exciting! I would have loved it when I had the hand - eye for it. Not now... I would be nursing a broken finger or two if I tried to catch something like that today!
You were talking about knee trouble... I never had any specific issues when I was catching but I have had plenty since I quit. I have had radical ACL reconstruction on my right knee (scoped twice as well for miniscus issues) and my left knee has been scoped once. I wonder how some of these guys have made it so long while still being able to walk!

Well we lost 13-10 tonight, but we sure had fun! I pitched all seven innings. I gave up four walks and struck out three. WE made a bunch of errors that cost us the game. I went one for four. Yuk!
Oh well, I am still alive! We did better than last week's 12-1 loss.
