Re: SG: Ultra con darling?
Of course it was in line for Graham to preach that message, they would not have asked him to preach without having some idea of the stance and message he took.
If you did not want to hear it then leave. Don't ask the man to preach and then hinder his message. He obviously was vetted before he was asked to come and minister, the board knew his stance, c'mon folks, that is what that district wanted so they asked him to come.

Re: SG: Ultra con darling?
It would be like going to a NRA meeting and not expecting them to talk about guns. I have been to many upci meetings where they talked about holiness/standards etc. That is what the boards want.
I am not being mean but that is why some people go to other venues and other conferences. If you don't like what the UPCI stands for then choose another venue.
Simple.
Don't be a whiner,(TRANSLATED = DAII) just leave and find another venue that is more conducive to what your stance is. That is what they desire to hear so let them hear it. It makes them happy, some were probably shouting and dancing.
Simple Eh folks?

Re: SG: Ultra con darling?
sounds pretty standard to me, most of the people that attend the camps are old time, or new and excited about trying to be old time, it is what it is, dt

Why was my name called in the thread title? Personal attack? Racial hatred?

AG, I agree about the name thing, and in that, one must consider the author of the thread.
Re WHAT was preached, as Sis. A said, the minister and I probably agree on most of what was said. It is the venue that has ALWAYS troubled me...
I am much older than you, and can remember camp meetings in my youth. They were about seeing the young people saved, and preaching a clothesline/party line type message was not part of it, at least here.
When an elder from CA came here in the 70s and began preaching all of that, it was not well received, and not because MI is a liberal state.
There are certain things that are pastor material, but that is just my opinion...

Can't say for sure, as I haven't been to camp in ions.
As I just stated in another post, this type of preaching at camp wasn't the norm back in the day.
It may be more welcomed today than it once was...can't say. The elder is a fine man (my brother and he are friends), and a great preacher.

Re: SG: Ultra con darling?
I'm with Barb on this - - in our day it wasn't the focus at camp at all (in the preaching at least). Camp was uplifting and usually about drawing closer to God, looking for his coming, etc. Pastors took care of the standards - especially since they varied so much from church to church.
Our church was the liberal one at camp, so we usually had to answer to someone while we were there, but our pastor was always there to stand up for us!

Re: SG: Ultra con darling?
Standards were always preached at least one night of camp when I was a kid. I'm sure it's still expected - to keep everyone in line for another year. Nothing wrong with it, I guess. If you belong to the UPC, you kind of expect it. We went to camp, but at home we lived by whatever our pastor taught (which varied with each successive pastor).
I wouldn't want to go to a camp NOW where this stuff was preached, since I've been away from UPC for 19 years. But I would have gone when I was in, and would have expected this type of preaching at some point.

The issue of children is what convinced me the most to get away from all that.
