Camp memories:
Our local radio stations are focused on the last CWS at Rosenblatt which is in it's last year since a new stadium is under construction. It got me thinking of all my camp memories.........some of this may be repetitous but that's the privilege of the "elderly"
Remember....this is the 1950's __________________
No showers so the ladies used the beautiful crystal clear lake to take an after lunch swim which was also our only bathing facility. We took our shampoo along to wash our hair. While we enjoyed the water all of the men/boys were playing softball..........in a sandy field down the road and around a bend---therefore none of them could see us
And we all wore ordinary swimsuits of the day.
The guys used the lake after us.......not sure if any girls had any "recreation"
While the men swam the ladies were in their cabins putting curlers in their hair...no curling irons or hot rollers.
At 2pm everyone went to the afternoon Bible study, which means many of the females had a scarf on their head to hide the curlers.
Evening services were full dress.( not permanent press yet...there was an iron and ironing board in one cabin for us to use)
Hoisery...panyhose hadn't been invented yet and heaven forbid you went bare legged.
So with heat and humidity { but since this was northern WI probably not alot of 90's}, we went to service without AC. Lots of folded paper fans in use.
Yes much of the activity centered on renewed friendships, boyfriends and girlfriends, etc but we also enjoed great services and spiritual recharging.
